    Hi all

Just updated my M1330 (nVidia 8400 model) to BIOS A15, and tried to follow the guidance to update the Intel graphics chipset to revision A05 (released 7 Jan 09).

    I am running Win2K8 Server Standard x64.

A15 installed without problem but the GM965 installer issued a message along the lines of

"This computer does not have the required spec. for this update. Stopping the update."

Is this because I have the nVidia 8400 installed? Or do you think the installer might be bombing because of Win2K8 Server?

Does anyone know how to force the installation, if it is needed? There seems to be an awful lot of stuff to install in this update.

Any halp / guidance / good jokes appreciated.

    Thanks all
    JG

This is the chipset for the M1330 models with the integrated intel graphics core X3100.

You state you own the GeForce 8400M GS equipped model. Thus you have the PM965 chipset.

GM965 graphics drivers clearly don't install on nVidia GeForce 8400M models. The intel chipset driver, which has a version number of 9.0.0.1008 however installs fine, since it's for both GM965 + PM965.

Could you be more precise which driver you mean and were you got it from?

    Hi 7oby

Thx for the reply. You seem to have cleared up this one for me - comprehension of things never was my strong point!

I was trying to install this from Dell's Vista x64 driver list for M1330:

    Driver: Intel GM965 Chipset driver
    Release Date: 07/01/2009
    Version: 7.14.10.1409, A05
    Download Type: Driver
    File Format: Hard-Drive
    File Size: 11 MB

It is recommended to install this after installing BIOS A15 (the x86 version number for the same driver is A10, I think).

But as you state, as I am running the nVidia gfx chip, it should not be relevant.

    Thanks

Yes, that's the graphics driver for the intel integrated graphics and won't install on M1330 with nVidia graphics.

There's another similar driver on the webpage:
    Driver: Intel Mobile Chipset
    Release Date: 06/28/2007
    Version: 8.2.0.1014, A02

And this one is recommended to install. Or actually the slightly more updated version 9.0.0.1008 from intel:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...OSs=150&OSFullName=Windows Vista* 64&lang=eng

However a BIOS update doesn't require to reinstall drivers. Another interesting feature of Dell's download site: If you enter your service tag, you will get only those drivers displayed that are valid for your shipped notebook configuration.
