Just curious, I asked customer service about getting a copy of Vista x64. They said I would have to buy a retail copy of Vista. Has anyone gotten a copy from Dell without buying a second copy of Vista?

You might have luck getting the disc from Microsoft. Also, if you can find the x64 disc you can just use your serial since it will work for x86/x64.

Dell has the Vista Ultimate 64 Bit version disk and it can only normally be obtained if you purchased the sole 64Bit loaded system which I believe was a Latitude.

    Order Details
    Quantity Description Unit Price

    1 KIT,SW,OVPK,VU64,A01,DVD,ENG $0.00

I just ordered one from Windows Marketplace for $15.99. I know, $16, but must be the black package!

Mistake me if I'm wrong, but can't you just re-install Vista and choose to use either 32 or 64 bit during the installlation process?

I have heard that on the microsoft retail DVD both versions are on the disk but I'm not sure on the Dell Reinstall disk. It states on the disk that it is a 32 bit version. I didn't see any 64bit folder on the disk. I haven't reinstalled to check and see if it gives you that option during reinstallation

    I don't believe so........

The Vista re-installation disk from Dell contains either the 32bit version or the 64bit version, not both. This is a Dell specific disk w/ the OEM serial/key integrated.

I think the same applies to the MS disks, at least the ones I have seen. Either 32 or 64bit, not both.

Correct me if I'm wrong

    You're welcome Les!!!!!!!

All MS products that are architecture specific come on separate discs. Server 08, SQL 08 and Vista all segregate 32b and 64b.
