I now have 8 gb of ram on my xps m1530 using the A11 bios update.
I want to thank Rhodan for the idea and the original poster of the A13 bios for m1330 thread. I downloaded the a11 update and installed it. I then installed my other 4 gb sodimm and bios recognized it and windows recognizes it. this is awesome.
Kudos to Dell for listening to its ideastorm ideas and implementing the ones that really matter to us users.

Where can you get the bios update?
-
Dell has it posted on their ftp site, under bios. i downloaded it, flashed the bios, rebooted and everything went without a hitch.

That's good to hear. Can you post a task manager picture? How does Vista adjust its memory loadout compared to 6 gigs? Is there any significant increase, or does the loading of commonly used files into live memory start to level out once you pass a certain RAM threshold?
-
Holy cow man, 8 Gigs? are you really using that much?
-
eleron911,
to answer your question, No i dont. I am a hotrodder, and if it supports it i want it. Also, if you are not running x64, dont even think about anything over 4 gb, waste of money.
i run x64 ultimate and thanks to rhodan, i got the 8 gb at a decent price considering what dell and others are charging for just 1x4 gb sodimm.

i bought 2 4gb sodimms for less than 1 4gb sodimm(dell wants around 500.00 USD for 1. I paid 270.00 for 2 -
newegg has 8 gb kit on sale for 299.00

Where can I buy the sodimms? (not form newegg)

U are from the UK, aren't you? The G.Skill modules should be available over there as well. -
-
You are right I should wait for a successful 8gb report on a m1330.
Lol Im not from the UK... I live in Mexico.

hello guys, i m having problem with dell built in diagnostics in my xps m1530 machine.when i finished diagnosis it says press any button to reboot. but after being pressed machine doesn't reboot. it says disk error. if i keep pressing buttons it says disk error. but my friend has got the same machine. he hasn't got this prob. how can i repair this?
-
throw up a screenshot of your task manager, please.
-
what is your dell experience score for 8gb? Just curious.. I've got it with 2gb and it was 5.1 and then put in 4 and still at same benchmark.. I know it's not accurate but it's something to go off of.
Also can you tell a difference between the 8 and whatever you had previously? -
YES!! I can finally have 4VMs running at the same time. WTG, Dell!!

Here is my task manager with 8GB RAM installed
It should be ALL 8GB of RAM available and i have disabled virtual memory.

I also can't understand why people insist on disabling the page file; no amount of RAM is overkill and some applications and services explicitly depend on the existence of such. -
Precisely, page files aren't just for memory overflows. It's the most misleading generalization.

For those that want proof of the M1530 running with 8GB of RAM, I have attached my system properties screen and my task manager.
Enjoy!Attached Files:

Very kool. The sticks are kinda expensive for me right now so I'll hold off 'till the prices comes down a bit. But good thing to know it can be done.
-
That's good to know that Dells can address the whole 8GB. Clevos have had issues doing so, probably because memory re-mapping might be buggy in 'em, whereas it seems to be fine and enabled in Dells.
omg....105 processes.
-
Actually I found the sticks reasonable. NewEgg has the 8GB kit for $299 and I found a place near Sydney for AU$209 per 4GB stick. Both are the GSkill the OP was showing earlier in the thread.
