    Hi,
I own an XPS 15 9510 and I recently managed to unlock undervolting, so far so good. Now I noticed that whatever PL1 and PL2 value I set in Throttlestop, after about 1min30s the laptop will power throttle back to 48watts, even if the CPU temps are at 75C. I read online that it could be related to intel dynamic tuning service, but even after disabling it it still throttles back to 48Watts. I guess dell implemented some in-house power plan in the BIOS, but has anyone managed to overcome this limitation?

    Thanks,

Cross post to the ThrottleStop guide with images of your ThrottleStop settings. The software developer is actively helping troubleshoot.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-throttlestop-guide.531329/

ThrottleStop 9.x has some enhanced power features worth checking out if you are running below v9.4

Some older XPS models had throttling gates around 75C (for the GPU and maybe the CPU too but I can't remember so search these forums to understand Dell's typical throttling schemes). You might try lifting the back of the laptop a few inches above the table to improve airflow to see if CPU temps drop below 75C and throttling happens later than 1'30".

Repastes of CPU and GPU helped drop temperatures of XPS models, so could help with temperature related throttling. Maybe less effective with power throttling.

I think Throttlestop can "address" two sets of power limits but there is a third set of power limits Dell sometimes sets. If that is the case you might find some example addresses for other XPS models and search for them on your laptop.

Also, if you set very high values for PL1 or PL2, the laptop may just ignore them.

Thanks for your answer ! I already repasted the laptop with conductonaut and applied a -0.80 mV to the CPU cores. Aslo the laptop sits on a cooling pad.
I did a try and limit the PL2 to 55W and it stayed at 55W for 2min this time. At that point the CPU reached 82C, and it went back to 48W, so maybe you are right, there might be a temperature ceiling (around 82C) that will trigger the power throttling to 48W.
    Will investigate further...

I installed Throttlestop 9.4 (from 9.3) and actually it's the MMIO that restricts to 48W. I unchecked the checkbox next to the MMIO line in TPL, but it's still limits to 48W after around a minut. I'll keep investigating.

I don't know how the MMIO buttons work on ThrottleStop or what the checkbox means. Did you check "disable power limit control" in the TPL window?

EDIT - In the FIVR window, did you check "disable and lock turbo power limits"? This is useful on my computer.

You need to check the MMIO Lock box.

Do not uncheck it. When this is set correctly, press Apply and you will see a lock icon to the far left of this setting.

@unclewebb I downloaded the latest version on throttlestop (9.4.2) and now it's working ! I managed to lock the wattage to 60W on my XPS 9510 during the whole cinebench R23 test. Thank you for your work it's truly amazing !

Would any of you guys with the latest 45w 3050ti bios mind making a backup with gpuz?

If you could also screenshot the main gpuz screen so I could make sure the memory matches I would appreciate it.

I have an Acer laptop with a 35w tdp and would love to get it up to 45w.

    Thanks!

    Dude, you are awesome!

I almost cant believe it but it worked. Rail power went from 38W to 49W and my unigine superposition score went from 2200 to 2800.

    Thank you.

spoke too soon. Completely unusable on battery. Its not reporting power correctly and just gets stuck at 200Mhz. I think the problem might be the way my AMD cpu is designed to handle the GPU vs your intel laptop. Ill try a bios from an AMD+3050ti and see what happens.

Thanks again for all your help!
