Read this could be the battery swelling? But my battery is behaving normally, holding charge ect.
The track pad does seem to have slightly come loose on one side but it is not protruding outwards.
The laptop is 5 years old.
If it is the battery will the track pad go bk to normal if I just replace the battery? Or should I get a new trackpad?
    Cheers

You could remove the battery to see if the track pad returns to normal. I vaguely recall this might have been caused by swelling large batteries but some trackpads were also replaced.

Search threads here for more ideas as there were a lot of posts (I think this was an issue on the 9550 and 9560 with bigger batteries).

Check to see if Dell had a recall on your battery. If the battery is swelling, I think it should be replaced ASAP for safety purposes and the original disposed of properly (maybe your local electronics store or Dell can help).

Modern laptop batteries can store a lot of energy and can cause fires so a failing battery is a serious matter.

This exact symptom was the battery swelling which we replaced and the trackpad was fine again. It is very tight in there, a little bit of swelling is enough to push the trackpad. It is dead easy to open the laptop and have a look, there are a few torx screws all around and two philips screws in the centre under a flip lid.
