Hmm, I swore I was going to wait until the 4670 models hit the outlets, but the discounts theyve had going on lately...

p8600, 4gigs, 1080P display and ati 4670 came out to 1350 after shipping and tax.

That's pretty much what I was expecting to pay at the outlet, although I admit I was hoping to get a bit faster of a cpu.

    Oh well. I'm still stoked.

Just ordered mine now. Holy Dell's website sucks. Took me like half an hour of playing with the cart and resetting passwords before I broke down and called on the phone, which took another half hour but it's done now.

Vista 64-bit w/ free windows 7 upgrade (I already have the RC but my current lappy is so old I can't even install it lol)
    Intel p8700 2.53GHz/1067MHz FSB/3MB cache
    4GB DDR3
    320GB 7200rpm HDD
    ATI Mobility Radeon 4670 - 1GB
    RGBLED 1920x1080
    BD Read/CD-DVD RW
    Bluetooth enabled

    $1459 with EPP savings, but 1577 after shipping/tax :(

Estimated Arival July 23, omg I hate waiting

I'm considering doing a video reviw of it when it arrives but I imagine a lot of other people will probably beat me to it.

Talked to my rep on the phone today, she said the system is in the final stage of production and will be shipped out by this week. I asked her to give me free next business day shipping so she put me on hold to go ask her supervisor. She came back and said that while she was willing to give it to me, the system was too far in the late stages of production and it wouldn't take affect. So instead she waived the $29 shipping fee :) Thanks for the tip guys, you just saved me a bit of cash.

Yes call them and cancel it. They will release the authorization on your card right away so you can then reorder with the 4670. Tell them that you would like the same discounts on the new order. Order using a rep if you can, I've found it's much easier to deal with if you have issues down the line.

I got it for multimedia/production like photoshop and Maya since im in the games industry. Of course i have to see how games will work on it. Im considering designing a laptop cooler for it, if it runs too hot with undervolting.

Is it worth the $100 dollar upgrade if all I'm gonna play is RTS? Well the only games I'm gonna play.

Ordered today after many long hours customizing too many different systems to count. It all came down to features, price, aesthetics in roughly that order.

t9550 CPU (This was a tough call, for my needs it was worth it though)
320gb 7200 RPM, will upgrade to SSD in the future
    4gb RAM
    1080p screen
    4670...duh
didn't opt for the blu-ray as my PS3 handles that duty and I don't ever intend on watching movies on it
5300 wifi, if this weren't included in the package already I probably wouldn't have included it, but I won't complain
no bluetooth, maybe if I see a need in the future I'll buy a module and add it in.
All for under $1500 after tax and shipping

So here's to ya, if it weren't for my lurkin around here I never would've known about the gpu upgrade and this system would have passed me by.

Hadn't seen it but was thinking of playing.
Some of the RTS in mind are: (not gonna mention the ones that I know I can play like Empire Earth)
    - Rome: Total War
    - Starcraft 2
    - Sins of a Solar Empire
    - World in Conflict
    - Star Wars: Empire at War

I know that the 4670 could probably play these at like 23102391239 fps but would it be worth to pay the $100 for these types of games? I mean they're RTS. Not FPS

Well to be fair i think RTS are more cpu intensive though im not 100% positive on that. At least they tend to factor it in more. For those it would probably not make a huge difference, but again your mileage may vary. Check the minimum sys specs on those games VS what your system will have then fudge the numbers say a tad higher becuase minimum specs are worthless to play any game on period.

And again if you can afford to spend the extra money get the better card, its not liek you can hurt yourself with more performance, which it will perform better period. Its about a 100 card in the store so really not a bad upgrade imo. Especially if you like to game no matter the genre.

i think, definitely yes. in games like Starcraft, the absolutely smooth gameplay is even more important, than in an average fps game (except like Quake 3 where it counts much too, but that's not an average game :) )

    Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I'm configuring my Studio XPS 16 right now. I'm wondering would 6gb of ddr3 be overkill for the T9550. I'm going to get the ATI 4670 graphics card, but I'm wondering if that is too much memory (if there is such a thing)? thanks in advance.

If you're going to upgrade the memory, go all the way and get the 8GB, otherwise it's not worth it. They don't make 3GB DDR3 sticks yet so you'd have a 4GB and a 2GB stick which will make the memory run in single channel mode instead of dual channel. It's been beat to death on here, but no one can really say how big of a performance difference there is. Either way, I had no issues with "only" the 4GB's.

Still waiting for an update on the PR site... nothing yet. only option is the 3670 =/ . i wonder if they're thinking to offer it in Puerto Rico at all... can't understand why they can't even let customers know about it when you ask them directly.

I'd benefit from a straight "no, were not going to offer it for PR" answer =p .

just updating ^_^ . feels weird not to log in and comment on the lappy .

im planning on getting a studio16 with 4670 too, ati 3670 is proven to be lackluster when it comes to gaming.
i can only play WOW on "good" video setting, and with a few features turned off.

I see some of you already have or are in the process of purchasing the XPS16.

I'm on a tight dilemma trying to figure out which notebook to buy.

Please see this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=397170 and let me know on your thoughts.

    ANY suggestions are appreciated. THANKS!

They can cancel it - you just have to find a rep that will do it.

For whatever reason, Dell is now telling people it can't be cancelled when it moves into production (a new tactic that is pretty cheap ,IMO).

Anyway, just keep calling until someone does it....
