I got a 2.93ghz with RGBLED, Blu-ray, Intel 5300 and 256GB SSD for $1,546 shipped. I'm gonna sell the SSD on ebay and pick up an Intel once they release the news in around a week about some price cuts or new SSD's.[/QUOTE]
WHAT??? how did you get it so cheap?

Thanks and yes as I've said all along, the DV7 doesn't perform much worse than the Dell SXPS 16. Both have identical video cards (except the HP is clocked lower out of the box) so it was expected. One big advantage the HP has is that it can play games while you lay in bed and have it on your lap comfortably. I haven't gamed with the Dell yet but I can imagine it wouldn't be comfortable. Then again the RGBLED on the Dell makes it completely worth it, it's THAT much better. -
Because he is full of s@it that\s how. -
Step 1?
Like, the USMLE Step 1? -
Yep that's the one. -
-
Yeah I'm likely going to take it in October. I finished my 5th semester 1.5 months ago and have been preparing on my own. At the end of August I'm taking a Kaplan retreat course in Chicago. USMLE World has been great, I've been using it since I started med school.
OT: Can you guys go here and vote plz: http://www.brickfish.com/Pages/PhotosAlbums/PhotoView.aspx?qsi=14992495 lol it's for a friend. -
I configured RMClock and used Orthos to stress test. I managed to drop temps from a peak (max) of 72C to 64C. Impressive temp reduction!
-
Joker, have you been able to open the bottom of the notebook?
are there any changes made by Dell?? Also can you post some more photos of the system. -
Does the Studio XPS 16 come with the Vista Reinstallation CD Or do you have to ask them to send it to you?
-
Sorry for this kind of a offtopic but I never had a 16 inch laptop and I saw some 17'' like the HP DV7 and they where just too big in size for me, so how would the XPS 16 and the DV7 compare in size? Does the XPS 16 come more close to a 15 inch or a 17 inch laptop? I will be using it for college and I dont want a REAL desktop replacement (although this would be my only pc) Thanks alot. -
I'd say it comes closer to a 15" laptop in size. The chasis is almost as thin as a macbook. The DV7 is quite a bit bigger than the XPS 16. -
I haven't checked yet, all the packaging is in the box. It doesn't really matter since you can burn your own backup DVDs using the Dell restore utility that comes with the laptop. For those wondering about heat, the laptop gets very toasty when running Crysis Warhead. The fan blows on full and if you put your hand near the fan area in the upper left corner, you could possibly burn yourself--yes it gets that hot! So don't even attempt to play a game that pushes the system really hard like Crysis on your lap. On a desk it's fine, the touchpad gets very warm but not uncomfortable. The RGB LED display REALLY shines in Crysis Warhead, all the colors, shadows etc just pop out at you; the DV7 looked dull by comparison. -
And is your intel 5300 card connecting at more than 54 mbps? I heard horror stories about the intel 5100 and had second thoughts of cancelling to reorder for the 5300, but since they're both wireless N... I thought that's the most important feature anyway.. -
Crysis Warhead gameplay video is up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oS2Lr5NhfE

Thanks for the pics and vids joker, screen looks amazing! should server me well for the three years in uni!
Shame the uk still hasn't got the upgrade, although we can get the t9900 CPU -
pretty good video joker, glad you're enjoying your pc ^_^ . Sent ya reputation way back when people were burning us for telling the truth about our hot pc's, so im glad other people are recognizing how helpful your posts have been.
As for me, i think i'm pretty much at the end of the line with Dell. It's been a long wait and many posts, but i can't shake the feeling that Dell gives the finger to PR when its offering only 2 processors (highest it offers is the P8600) , wont even offer the 9 cell, charges 400 dollars more for the 4670. The 400 dollars more wouldnt be an issue at all, thing is that with a far slower processor than the one i had bought on my original studio xps 16, the configuration for Puerto Rico goes all the way up to $2900.00.. not including taxes or shipping.
I loved this laptop but there is no way im goning pay $3,000 dollars for it, particularly when a configuration with an even better processor in Dell US goes for $2,200.00 . They don't even offer the windows 7 upgrade for PR.
Like i said, appreciate all the input you guys and Joker have given. Enjoy your great lappy. it is indeed a beauty
Joker:
Imma send you a private message with a link to an Asus im thinking to buy, id appreciate it if you can check it out and give me your opinion. Thanks buddy. -
Dell just pushed my estimated delivery date with NBD delivery out from 7/14 to 7/27. I originally ordered on 6/27. That makes it over a month to deliver? I have a message into my rep to see what the real story is, but I'm really in not in the mood to wait another two weeks. They shouldn't advertise these things if they don't have the parts to build them and ship them.

I ordered my laptop on 6/30 and was due to recieve it on 7/16. I was lucky enough to check it today and it has already shiped. I should be reciveing it tomorrow.
On a side note my 9 cell battery was originally due to arrive on 7/17, but has been pushed back to 7/29.

ATI Mobility RADEON M96XT - 1GB
500GB 7200RPM Free Fall SensorSeagate Hard Drive
Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card

I am not sure why I am getting mine before other people who ordered before me, but I would assume it has to do with the configuration in some way. -
My configuration is just the same as yours... And mine was delayed from 14 to 27 apparently.
-
Whoa i just called the status line and it says my order has shipped!!! What the hell is going on!!!! lol
-
lol is the online indicator that horrible?
-
apparently so haha but heres the wierd thing i called on the automated status line an hour ago and it said as well it was delayed till july 27, now its saying it was shipped on the 28th the day i ordered?!
-
-
damnit the tracking number doesn't even show for me yet! hopefully soon it will show for me. lol
-
-
Oh hmmm maybe i should call in, was there a specific rep or just any? My rep just told me it should ship within 1 to 2 days...
-
OK, the 4670 is defiantly 100% (not 200% Joker, but I guess that was a math mistake?) stronger then the 3670.
I was wrong, I admit it.
Anyway, I just bought a desktop with a high end ATI Gpu and high end AMD processor + accessories. I'l get a really cheap mini PC later for mobility. -
-
Hehe yea im waiting on the line right now
Hope i get some info lol
-
Ha well he gave me a tracking number but its not showing up on the fedex site yet, he told me it wouldn't either, he said its waiting to be picked up by fedex right now.
-
Ah and now on the online status it shows "Shipped"
haha damn dell trying to scare us! -
Congrats, you're going to love it! Remember guys, the laptop DOES get quite hot when playing a game that taxes the CPU/GPU. Last night I was playing Left 4 Dead at 1080P with full details (avg FPS was between 50-55) and the machine got very hot--the touchpad in particular due to it's proximity to the southbridge (my girlfriend said the touchpad was too hot for her to touch). It looks like Dell has not made any improvements to the cooling system like I had hoped so the best recourse right now is to purchase a laptop cooler. I'm going to order the Zalman online today. -
Anyone got a link to some good laptop coolers? I am not even sure where to start looking.
-
I'd recommend the Zalman NC2000. -
Also please check the notebook cooler guide/faq.

My order has shipped as of this morning
. The expected delivery date changed three times. I talked to a rep this morning and he informed that it shipped today and to ignore what the website said. It was in the "boxing" stage for three days. Anyway, to those of you who are eagerly antipicating your new PC, I wouldn't worry too much about what the Dell website says. It seems it's not very accurate.
Just checked the website and it now says it has shipped (no tracking number yet). This morning it said it would be delivered on the 22nd.
Heres my sytem info:

I called to check my order status, it says "Its processing". What does that mean?
-
Order Processing
Order Processing includes time to process payment. Approval times vary based on the designated form of payment. -
Thanks mate, srry for the question with an obvious answer
-
-
Hey guys, looks like we have another waiting game coming soon...
-
-
Guys, when you get your new SXPS 16, make sure you register at http://win7.dell.com for your free Windows 7 upgrade kit. I just registered mine today.
-
I'm not too concerned about the i7 CPU upgrade. For me the biggest upgrade for the laptop was the 4670 and I'm very happy. -
Considering this, how can I upgrade to W7? I mean, can I download the W7 upgrade from microsoft.com or it will be just an upgrade using a physical dvd or something like that?
thanx
Edit: Oops, Sorry about that, I just made a question without reading the link you posted, my question is answered -
