For those people who exchanged laptops, were there any improvements in the screen? Debating whether to exchange or return my 9550 right now.

    Hello friends

This is my first post here, cause one month ago I bought my dell xps 9550 4k. I love this laptop but it has some problems that ask to me if is it true the price I really payed....when I try to play games, as fifa 16, it is very hard to do. The images are good but the refresh and continues images moving are difficult to see....is it normal? Do I need to change it or configure NVIDIA??

    Thanks and best regards....

Anyone using an FHD XPS 15 for video editing or just multimedia usage (no gaming) that can share their experience with the screen?

I'm really interested in it, especially since the FHD version is available with the 84wh battery and i7 here in Sweden. Notebookcheck just released a great review of it:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-15-9550-Core-i7-FHD-Notebook-Review.158875.0.html

The only thing casting doubts about it is the apparently slow response time and possible PWM flicker at low brightness settings. As long as the mouse cursor is not showing trails and it's generally inconspicuous, I'm fine. Any feedback would be appreciated.

My 9550 FHD has a noticeable delay when moving the mouse. There is a mouse trail on mine compared the my other laptop screen. Replacement arriving tomorrow so I will see if its any better

    Any update on your replacement?

I just bought an XPS 9550 with the 4k panel today. I noticed the ghosting right away and I'm pretty disappointed. I did the UFO ghost test with a Sony RX100 at 1/200 shutter. I compared my old Asus UX32VD and the new laptop. The old laptop has 1-2 trailing UFO's while the new XPS has 3-4 trailing UFOs. When dragging a window around the desktop you can clearly see smearing edges. There's also some slightly darker spots in the middle of the screen visible on a white background.

I got a UX32VD and bought an XPS 15 to replace it - though the one with the FHD panel. The trailing is definitely noticeable. Even when watching films I'd notice it. There was also a red shift / tint on the right side of the screen. I ended up returning my XPS 15 since it also had misaligned ports. It was a great machine otherwise, but having that many faults is not really acceptable for this price.

The UX32VD is still the best laptop I've owned. The screen has perfect colors, black levels and response time. The keyboard is great. I'd just need the added power of a quad core for film editing. I'm leaning towards keeping the Asus and just transcoding all my heavier film material to lower bitrate proxies that it can handle. Maybe Dell is going to fix the issues in future revisions of the XPS 15? I don't see any other alternative coming up, except perhaps for the yet to be announced Macbook Pro 15 Skylake updates.

Yea that's exactly the situation I'm in. I am going to sell the XPS after it comes back from the repair depot. See my other thread for the hell I went through with tech support.

    Sorry for a late reply.

The 2 FHD units I received as a replacement all had bad screen response times and the 4K was just as bad. I gave up on the 9550 ever since.. Not to mention the poor speakers that were in the laptop as well.

Sorry for the late replies to everyone with system replacement questions.

I received a total of 3 units from dell.

2 with the same FHD as my original and 1 with a 4K screen. All showed the same slow horrible response times like the first one. If you can't stand the ghosting like me, don't waste your time with a replacement.

Just got my XPS 15 FHD a few days ago. Really disappointed especially after watching so many reviewers on youtube. A lot of them mention ghosting but also say "see for yourself" and show a video of them playing a game. I realised now that the bitrate and video quality on youtube is insufficient to actually show the ghosting. I did the UFO chase test and had to set distance to 90 before the trails become seperate. Absolutely appalling. What's worst is Dell's response. After sending in photos and explaining I've updated everything possible they ended up telling me the screen is working "how it was designed to work" and that was that. I ended up asking for a refund instead. I did leave some hope as I thought there might be a slim chance they would replace the screen with one that is acceptable. However, that response had me over the line, especially since I used to be a laptop technician a long time ago. They seem like they know what's going on, and just want to ignore it by telling people it's "normal" and hoping everyone will just live with it. Very very poor customer service. Will not buy Dell again after this experience.

I did the UFO test on my FHD and the results were underwhelming. But in daily use for my purposes, I quite like the screen.

The speakers are almost terrible although removing all the silly Dell/MaxxAudio effects software, improves the situation. The Micro$oft basic audio driver is much better than the stock one, however, RealTek keeps updating itself to a junk driver.

I went to the Realtek site and downloaded 6.0.1.7898 dated 2 Aug 2016 and that sounds fine (given the limits of the poor speakers) and does not auto reload the old junk drivers.

Still have some audio static when changing screen brightness. Dell replaced my speakers and audio card but that static remains; they also said that was within design specs...

That is no static but audio dropouts, and a bug in the BIOS, which halts the whole system for 4 to 16 ms when pressing Fn-11 and Fn12. As usual the hotline has no clue what's going on...
