This question is aimed at people who have used their Studio XPS 1640 laptops constantly for quite a while (5+ months let's say).

Has any defects developed, such as loose parts, broken parts, dust underneath the screen, faulty parts, etc.?

Had mine since June and nothing so far except last week the screen went bad. Dell replaced it for free though.

What do you mean by "screen went bad"?

Kind of a weird story. I was playing a game and the sun was shining in, and I noticed that the laptop screen (I have the RGBLED 1080 screen) changed brightness when the sunlight was shining directly on the screen. I started blocking the light with my hand, and then moving my hand out of the way to convince myself the screen actually was changing brightness with the change in light (I didn't know the screen had a light sensor. In fact, I still don't definitively know that, but my guess is it does). Shortly after, the screen went all red, then all green. It then went all red again and dimmed way down so you couldn't even read what was on the screen. Changing brightness did nothing.

Talked to the dell guy and he said there aren't any known issues with sunlight on the screen. But I think the one I got it replaced with is a different brand or something. Just minor things about it behave differently than my old screen. So maybe they've changed the screen they put in them now.

I've had it since June, no problems here so far.
