It gets hot, When the screen is opened, the vents blow hot air o the screen. This is a deal breaker for me.

The entire studio line is like that...my sister has a original Studio 15 and hasn't had any issues with that.

surely if you only redirect the air up the screen then that isn't a bad thing, it's only when you actually block the vent that bad stuff happens

I have had the xps 1640 for about 2 weeks now and I have had no issues.

And now personally know 3 friends with the same laptop. (all pretty new too) And none of them have a heat issue.

The only problem one of them had was dust under the screen cover but a techinican came out in like 3 days and fixed that issue.

Ive had my sxps16 for about 1.5 months, and the heat is a non-issue for me.

The heat "issue" is a myth. I've had this laptop since the first week it came out and it's not any warmer than any other laptop I've used.

The only problem I had was with one of the trackpad buttons getting stuck, but that seemed to have fixed itself as it hasn't happened for a while.

Yeah the "heat" issue isn't an issue as the performance of the SXPS16 isn't affected by the heat. The only thing I've heard is the "inconvenience" that the bottom of the notebook gets hot(since it's made of metal) so you can't use the thing directly on your lap if it gets intensive(you shouldn't anyways if you plan on doing intensive stuff lol :p)

Other than that, I haven't heard any actual issues with the SXPS other than maybe some people didn't like the USB port placement at the right side of the laptop lol :p

I'm sure some actual SPXS 1640 owners will stop by to give you their opinions, than those that already own the 1640 & have first knowledge ~ have already done above. ;)

Also, please see this thread for discussion on the SXPS 1640! :D
