Not sure which one is better. When I first created a thread I asked why I was getting slow downs and then somebody said to get the A10 BIOS, but now others are tell me that the A09 BIOS are actually BETTER! I'm very confused right now.... This is my first serious laptop and going to be using it for school/gaming and not sure which BIOS is better. So which one is better? Right now I'm assuming it's the A09 BIOS since they were orignally installed into my laptop that I received only a week ago. Also are there any problems that people have experienced when they downgraded from A10 to A08, then upgraded from A08 to A09?

    -Appreciate the help guys! =)

I cannot comment on a10, but I can say with 100% certainty that a09 has worked out quite well for me.

If you don't have any problems and are already on A10, stick with it.

I experienced GPU throttling (due to my GPU hitting ~86C on my 4670 after 5 minutes of gaming) on A10, so I went back to A09.

Monitor your temps and/or use GPUZ or similar to tell if your GPU is throttling if you're not sure.

Did you have any problem going from A10->A08->A09? When I watch my 1080p blurays, it lags and it gets in the way of enjoying the movie so I'm planning on going back to A09.

I had no problems going from A10->A08->A09. The only reason I went back to A08 first is because it wasn't bundled in this package. http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/450888-up-downgrading-your-1645-bios.html . Download The 'BIOS Tools' and the SXPS 1645 BIOS' files.

After installing A08 from the package, I then did a normal install of A09 from Dell's driver page (click on A10 then click on "Other Versions").

You can't directly just install an older version using Dell's installer.

I 2nd "gpig", I did exactly the same process without problems in order to get back to A09...

With my 1645 and 5730 GPU for me I'm sticking with A09, it works and does not throttle so thats good enough for me at this point.

OK I downloaded both and really scared to do anything at this point... What's the next step? Do I open the WinPlash64 then browse in the "Specify New BIOS files" to find the extracted A08 BIOS files that I downloaded and click "BACKUP BIOS"? Also should the file that I browsed to find be a .WPH file? If I can get a walkthrough that would be great! =)

How did you change to A09 after A10. The flashing program is not allowing to downgrade. A10 actually increased the running temperature.

    Mini-walkthrough
    1. Download the package in the link above
    2. Open the WinPhlash program
    3. Browse for the flash file you want (you'll want the 1645_A08)
    4. Start flashing BIOS
    5. Comp should restart on its own after flashing is completed.
    6. Now download A09 from Dell Drivers page (go into A10, and click on Other versions)
    7. Flash A09
