    For our new L702X NOV 11, 2011 A14 BIOS Version, Specs are Dell's BIOS A14 4-8 or 16GB system memory and 3GB Nvidia GT555 3D graphics card.

Just copy the attached (nvam.inf.txt) in this POST into this folder! C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\290.36\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver

Rename the new copied nvram.inf.txt from .txt to just nvram.ini also in the location of Nvidia driver the Original fie nvam.inf right click it and rename it to nvam(ORG).inf so you can recover it if you like to! GOODLUCK ALL you good people! IM ASKING FOR THIS TO BE STICKY!

Also i attached the NVDM.INF were i got the ref Id's # & CODE and merged the newer referenced drivers nvram.inf from the newer beta drivers ver: 290.36 information. nvdm.inf is just a reference file! OKAY
    AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAVE FUN GAMING! HI5 HI5 HI5 HI5 WAHOO SWTOR IS GOING TO BE PIMP NOW And so is BattleField 3 (BF3)!

This doesn't actually fix the issue that everyone is having. All it does is trick the system into installing the driver but whenever you actually want to run an application that uses the nvidia card, it will only use the intel one.

No this is a Fix indeed! it worked great for me! and your in-correct! This poll and fix is for us people whom own the 3D VERSION of the L702X which does not have the INTEL/NVIDIA optimus PROBLEM at all! there just exsists an NVIDIA GT555M in our 3D system so please consider fixing your vote or withdraw it!
    THANKS!

BTW i never said anything about your system. But i would imagine it should and would take care of it just fine! OH yes I do know about your issues as well! you have to go into your Nvidia Control panel and Goto MANAGE 3D Settings and there at the top is a pull down and just choose from Auto-Select to HIGH-performance NVIDIA Processor as is the best solution for GT555M video card performance needs! remember and just choose NVIDIA! also one major setting you must change i see everyone if failing to find or even know about is in the system 3D manager look also for (Power Management mode) and change from "Adaptive" and change to "(Prefer Maximum Performance)" **WARNING** will lessen your battery USAGE TIME drastically! i have 5 other Earlier A12 BIOS DELL XPS L702X that are not 3D and it worked great for me! Good-luck and happy gaming or computing!

did you change the Nvidia default setting " power Management mode" from adaptive change to " Prefer Maximum Performance"?

This Fix did work on my other's L702X laptops just fine.

Yes I did and still no result. God this is depressing.
Weird thing though... When I run a game, the activity icon in the task tray shows some activities going on during 2 seconds, I hear the fan turning at a high rate, then the game actually starts, the fan stops and the icon shows nothing more; while the game says I'm using Intel HD 3000 chipset.

    Hello to everyone,

yes Dell provide a driver on its website. But what about the last NVidia driver to make the last games start? If I remember well, Dell driver is something like 265.xx, and last Nvidia version is 290.xx or something else.
For instance, NFS The Run won't start because the installed driver is older than the required one...

There is no nvram.inf in C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\290.36\WinVista_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver to be replaced. There is a nvam.inf ...

I tried your solution step by step, but it doesn´t let me install the drivers. There may be some faults in your post?

Simply check your driver version and your hardware version.. Right click your desktop and open Nvidia Control Panel at the very bottom left of the window click "System Information" that will tell you driver version. Next to check Hardware version ref: to my photos. you will get an idea how. basicly right click your computer and open manage then to device manager then to display adapters double click it! then click details scroll down to Hardware ID's. compare against my list posted.

I have exactly the same specs as yours. I ran a compare of files of version 290.36 nvdm.inf (in the extraction folder of the nvidia driver) and your modified nvdm.inf.txt nvram.inf.txt.

    The result was:

    Summary for 1 <--> 3:
    The files are identical
    7915 Line(s) match 0 Block(s) diff 0 : 0 Line(s) diff

    I´m trying to install 290.36

    Waht exactly have you changed?

Never mind, I created a working .inf myself :D
The .inf files you attached were unmodified.

For the people with the same system specs mentioned in topicstarters post and wanting to install 290.36 drivers:

Just replace nvdm.inf and run setup again.

Happy Holidays! Good Luck dude! If you like a hand it would take like seriously 2mins to do it for you over teamviewer with you learning how it works.

    Tired goodnight.

Dude. I really appreciate your help here, but you´re tending to make things way more complicated than they actually are. I´m not trolling in any way. If you make a post with a solution, then make sure it´s clear to everyone, and double check your post before shouting out and even asking to make it sticky. The only file that needs to be modified/replaced is nvdm.inf. Why upload more and all those useless screenshots? Users here rather do things theirselves instead of waiting for a teamview call from you (no offense). My time is not wasted. I know how things work now to create my own .inf files in the future and share if asked for without any attention seeking.

    ;)
    Happy Holidays and Cheers!

I can confirm the 290.36 with a modified .inf does work on a 3D 1702x (no OPTIMUS) with A14 factory installed bios. 3D and everything working correctly and seeing a healthy performance increase in SWTOR, WOW (in 3D) and Battlefield 3 as well as 3DMARK. Only install step required is downloading driver and replacing the included nvdm.inf with the modified one. Install as normal at that point.

you're a genius, it works like a charm. Now just to go a bit further, it works with 290.36, but there's the newer 290.53, and 295.51. I tried it with those, but no luck. (system xps 17 i7 64bit win7 premium nvidia 550m no 3d)
In the 290.53 inside of display.driver i found a file named nvae.inf that does look like nvam.inf, but just replacing doesn't do it. So I edited a bit, the installer started working, meaning that it did accept and detect the 550m, but then it interrupted...
Could you please try to explain what the values above mean so that I can try to adapt them so they work in the newer nvidia driver versions.
    Well,, thanks in advance.

Has anyone with a "3d" L702x had any success using an external 3d monitor?

Apparently , for 3d gaming on a external monitor you need to download the latest nvidia driver which can now support "3d 120Hz" from the DisplayPort interface, or alternatively, buy an expensive DL Active adaptor if the monitor doesn't support DisplayPort.

Are any of you guys with A14 factory bios using the latest nvidia driver without any issues?

Please help guys, as I really don't wanna make a costly mistake i.e buy a 3d monitor then finding out I can't get it to work.

    Cheers.
