ok so i hv this problem with my dell xps m1330 that it wont charge the battery. and when i turn the laptop on, it gives me message that tht AC adapter can not be recognized, and that the battery may not charge.
i tried reinstalling windows but it still didnt help :S. so i called Dell technical support and talked to this guy for 40 mins, he told me a bunch of stuff , like reseting stuff in BIOS etc. but it didnt work. so at the end he just said to send the laptop for repair. Even though i still have the manufacturing warranty, but i CANT send my laptop in for repair, bc i really NEED it for my university. And also he wont agree to send me a replacement laptop or anything. so i really dont know what to do. i know there are alot of experts here, who are way better than dell technical support team. so does any one has an easy way out for this problem.
Any help will be much aprreciated.
thanks

First sorry for my english. I had the same problem a few months ago. 2 possibilities: defectuous ac adapter, defectuous motherboard. You can check by entering the BIOS and noticing if your ac adapter it´s been recognized in the Battery section (plugged and unplugged). Try to get another Dell laptop and see if you get the same messages. If you see "Unknown device" only in your notebook, your motherboard is the problem, and if both laptops show "unknown", it´s ac adapter problem. In my case, i called the technical support and they send a guy to replace my motherboard.

Read about the AC Power adapter ID chip.
The AC power adapter ID circuitry design is flawed
for a range of DELL Laptop AC Power adapters.

check BIOS.. does it see adapter there?
if not , motherboar have to be changed..
my friend had the same isssue and they replace him motherboard -
Known issue with the Dell BIOS, dell will replace the power supply, did for me 2 times I got this error. I would say also try and update to the latest bios as well, but call dell anyway.

Having same problem here, with 9400... Already going to get a new adapter.
I read the article and its 'prequel' - I have all the symptoms here. Hope there's nothing wrong with laptop power jack and new adapter will close the issue.
The worst thing is that it doesn't just stop charging the battery (its long dead anyway), but also underclocks my T5200 through SpeedStep, which is working at 800MHz instead of 1.6GHz. That's really irritating, I can't even browse Internet as I normally would!
AC adapter cant be recognized
