    I'm sorry :( I was just desperate...

I'm really wishing that most people actually received perfect 1080p screens for their 15z, because I refuse to believe that the vertical white lines appear on all 1080p 15z's and people simply just don't notice it.

I have a 1080p 15z but I do not have this issue. Comparing my screen to the photo you posted, mine looks like the Dell S2209W monitor you posted. I can see a little bit of vertical lines if I get too close to the screen or look really closely but nothing like the picture on the left.

    THANK YOU.

Ever since I posted this some hours ago, there were TWO other people with the same problem. Each of them got both a good and a bad one, so I'm relieved to know that this is not the same for all models and that the replacement system sent to me MAY be a good one.

And yeah, that picture shows exactly what it looks like in real-life, which was hard to accomplish at first because the camera was too close. I tried to emulate the normal viewing distance and I finally got it. Those vertical lines (that appear white) in the picture are definitely what they look like in the real.

No problem! I know there are people on this forum who have had the problem but there are others who haven't. I was pretty paranoid when I got my system but everyone who has looked at the screen agrees that I don't have that problem. Hopefully your replacement will be a good one but if not, be persistent! And keep us updated :)

Yesterday, Friday morning, I waited 2 hours for a call that never arrived. I then called Dell and the person who, last Monday, promised to call me on Friday was on vacation. Apparently the replacement system was ready since Wednesday but I never received a call. I should've called on that day, but I keep putting faith in people and the person in charge with my case assured me that everything would be ready by Friday.

Anyway, they said I'm getting the replacement next week. My problem is that the 21 Day Return policy only applies to my order until Tuesday next week. I don't know if they were just purposefully delaying everything so I can't cancel anymore.

Well, the 15z FHD screen is brighter (300 nits) than the L502x's (270) although it's only WLED and not B+RGLED (the new Ivy Bridge XPS models have higher brightness but no option for IPS/B+RGLED). The colors of my 15z seem to be better than my TN Panel LCD's even in Generic Color. I recently ordered an XPS 15 L502x (i7 QM 2.0 ghz 1080p B+RGLED GT540 2GB TV Tuner Win7 Pro Blu-ray 8GB RAM for $697.93 after 20% coupon and tax and fees and the Amex $100 off) and if the 15z replacement I receive next week is perfect, I'm giving it to my little sister. I hope I can still get a full refund if I get a defective replacement system.

I forgot to mention that I'm waiting for the 11.6" 1080p IPS Asus UX21A. Preferably once they get to the $700 range, which is probably a year from now.

My eyes crave pixel density. Once I see a screen with higher PPI, I start becoming conscious of the pixelation of less pixel-dense screens. The MacBook Pro with Retina display is out of the question, coming from a broke college student who uses rare Windows programs. Unless anime fansubs raise the standard encoding to 2880 x 1800 I will have no use for a resolution higher than 1080p. Anyway, I got my 15z for ~$500. I accepted the replacement system instead of cancelling because it's hard to find another deal like this for a similar laptop. I just wish they send me a NORMAL one because my oldest LCD display looks so much better than the one I got!

The L502x they sent me does not have a 1080p B+RGLED screen!!! It's a 720p with the same white lines problem I had with the 15z!!!

I HAVE THE WORST LUCK EVER I SWEAR I WANNA CRY WHAT DO I DO CALL FOR REPLACEMENT OR HAVE SOMEONE REPLACE THE SCREEN?

    I specifically need a 1080p B+RGLED screen!

I don't know why you thought you'd get an L502X with a 1080p screen unless you bought it from the outlet, because they discontinued that screen at least a month ago. You can only get it with the multi-touch display now.

I did get it from the outlet :)

    I'm getting a replacement laptop now. I confirmed that it's going to be a 1080p B+RGLED.

I'm jealous. The multi-touch screen was a huge mistake, and to top it off, mine is defective! Due to be replaced on Monday.

Well, considering that I spent enough money and (money value of) time to buy myself a MacBook Pro with Retina display it does seem like a huge joke.

I bought a 15z. Returned the 15z. Ordered an L502x. Got the wrong screen. I'm waiting for the replacement L502x which will arrive after 2 weeks. And I'm getting my refund from the 15z with the $475 worth of gift cards I used.

As I said in the previous post, I'm waiting for the 11.6" version :)

I had a problem dealing with a different person in the Resolutions Department. The first one I talked to didn't offer me a replacement and wanted me to just return the laptop and buy a new one. I'm glad I called again and got the right person. I wish I called to cancel though so I could've had at least a partial refund plus the replacement, just like what happened when I called about my defective 15z.

Contrary to common belief Dell's customer service has been very helpful to me. (I guess some people are just rude to customer service? And they wonder why they get treated unsatisfactorily.) Selling defective items in an outlet is quite fraudulent though, but I'm guessing it's just my luck because I've ordered many computers from Dell Outlet before and all of them were perfect.

This thread is not a joke in the context that this screen issue is notorious among 15z 1080p purchasers, even to those who bought it brand new.

I realized that the issue may not be the screen but the ribbon cable. In this thread the vertical white lines appear in the L501x as well, and they found that it was because a 720p ribbon cable was installed instead of a FullHD one. So the display problem is apparently not model specific but a company-wide manufacturing/technical error.
