    Added 2nd HDD broke Interposer (SATA connector) - Lost warranty?

    I broke the interposer...

    Called dell and let them send me a new one 1,90€

    Will I now get problems with my warranty?

    I do also have complete care, which i doubt has anything to do with it.

    What do u guys think?

    sorry to hear, but no i dont think you will get problems unless the issue is directly relating to the piece you replaced. In that case they wouldnt replace it if that was the issue. Like added ram, if you add aftermarket ram and it stops working etc then its nothing to do with dell and if you needed to send it in then you should take your ram out and put the ram back in that the machine came with.

    well, the thing is he said, that changing ram is ok and hdd, but what i did was basically taking the whole laptop apart?

    im still a bit worried....

    you can take the whole machine apart all day long as long as you dont damage anything, THEN it wont be covered under warranty.

    My opinion is that if you were honestly just doing the normal procedure to change a disk drive, i.e., not forcing anything, then the part failed in normal use and should be covered by the warranty.

    Would it have broken if a Dell tech was doing the same thing? If the answer is yes, then I'd chat tech support and go through the hoops to get them to replace it on warranty. You may need to escalate the issue past the first level techs, but they should agree to send you the part. Be firm but polite, and stress that you weren't doing anything out of the ordinary.

    In general, changing out a disk drive is something their techs often leave up to the customer on desktops, I don't see why it would be any different on a laptop. And if it is something they sometimes leave to the customer, a part shouldn't just break if you're doing a simple R & R.

    well its not just changing hard disc, like taking back part off and changing. its a bit more complicated by taking off keyboard and taking off blu ray as described here:

    Im not so concerned about the 1,90€ really but about them maybe causing troubles next timei have issues that are dell related and not through my servicing.

    But on the other hand, i could call them and say yeah i was very careful and it was already loose and prone to break, since i went through a lot of repairs. I didnt even use much force.
