    I bought an XPS M1530:

(vista premium sp1) with Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7250@ 2.00GHz and 2gb RAM (4gb now). The HDD is 5200 rpm.

What would be an economical way to upgrade this laptop to run as fast as possible?

I was thinking of getting a 7200rpm drive - any thoughts about this? I don't run it off battery that often so draining the battery is not such a big deal.

    Thanks.

    Mmmmmmmm..

I think you will get more performance if you follow the Les NBR Member Vista Tips and Tweaks Guide for tweaking vista than getting a 7200RPM HDD.

My wife have an M1330 with 5400 HDD and a 2.0 D2C and is not that much difference.

I tryed to post the link of the Les guide but I couldn't because I'm a newbie too

You may notice an increase in the startup of programs and games, etc. But other than that, not much i think.

    Hi Welcome to NBR

7200rpm 320gb drive will speed up loading times.

Are you using it for gaming?

Upgrading the CPU isnt worth it for your case because the T7250 is sufficient enough. You cannot upgrade the GPU but you can overclock it to pump out an extra 20%~ peformance.

Mostly for design/page layout (Photoshop, Indesign etc.) - though not for the serious work, mostly for stuff on the go (showing clients etc.)

I use Mac at home for that.

In that case, the hard drive is not a bottleneck and I don´t think you would notice to big a change if you switched to 7200rpm =)
