    Hi,
I am thinking of pre ordering a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium for my 1530 to keep it up to date.

Here in the UK it's only £45 delivered, but rather than formating my Vista copy I was gonna get a new 7200rpm drive to put it on, cos it's a good excuse!

    Anyhoo, my questions are;
Can I swap drives without voiding my 3 year Dell warranty?
    Which version, 32bit or 64?
What are the pros of the 64bit over the 32?
Finally, will I be able to get drivers for my hardware, eg Dell bluetooth module and webcam etc, even on the 64bit version?

    Many Thanks in advance.
    MM.

Not sure about the warranty - though as long as you don't try and claim for the HDD i can't see why it would be an issue.

In regards to 32 vs 64bit the only advantage is if you have 4Gb or more of memory. Below that they are the same

When I put W7 32bit on my M1530 it found almost everything straight away, and those that it didn't it picked up when it connected to the internet

The only things I would recommend doing is buying the Windows 7 Fingerprint reader software from Upek when it gets released, and getting the latest Bluetooth and Nvidia Graphics drivers as the ones on the Dell support site are very out of date

The latest compatible Bluetooth drivers for Dell can be found doing a Search - they are currently at 6.2.0.8500

    Hi Ben,
I only have 3gig RAM, so I guess 32bit will be OK then.

I have installed UPEK v582 that I downloaded from a link supplied by a member on these forums, as Firefox 3.5 wouldn't utilise Passwordbank support with the old 562 version. Wont 582 work with Windows 7 then?

I have Dell Truemobile 355+EDR module.

    Cheers.

Windows 7 has built in support for the Fingerprint reader - as such different sofware is needed

As for the Bluetooth software I linked to - ignore what model it says its for as it's backwards compatible - look for the software version number instead

This is the version I currently have installed and it works fine

Unfortunately finding the latest drivers is a lot more difficult since XPS Wiki went down

    XPS Wiki, ruled.
As long as the HDD isn't attached to your system by warranty sticker, I don't see any violation.

I think you can install Vista drivers and they will update automatically but I really don't know.
