    Where might I find something that's compatible with the XPS 1645, or even the original part from Dell? Anything special? Thanks!

    Dell uses: Sony/NEC SATA Slot BD-ROM 12.7mm BC-5600S and Panasonic SATA Slot BD-RE 12.7mm UJ-235A.

    thanks gogeta (DBZ yeah!!) so it's like $130 on eBay for a drive.. pretty straightforward install I wonder.. this would be kind of cool..although I'd rather get a PS3 lol

    I think you have to remove the entire mobo to change the optical drive, otherwise you can't get to it.

    You shouldn't have to remove the motherboard according to the manual.
