the picture is of a really close up (and blurry) shot of the left hinge.. you can make out that one piece on the left.. thats the piece that many owners have complained about having a gap. His gap is just bigger.. well, at least much bigger than mine.
Yes, I think you should call Dell and have the display assembly replaced. That looks like a pretty big gap. -

Brendan..call Dell..Have them handle this..it does not look right.
Do not try and do a *fix* on this yourself. That is what your warranty is for.

Ask for both, no harm in trying, but don't expect them to replace the screen itself, as there's nothing (that you've told us about) actually wrong with it.
Good luck with it man, that sucks about the frame...

Are you serious? The laptop's heat is warping the aluminum? Why don't you look up what the melting point of aluminum is...
I thought Canada's education system was better than the US. You changed my mind on that. -
Whys everyone so quick to criticize people on here when they find they have problems with their purchase. It's either because of build quality or heat you can see that, but does it matter it shouldn't be like that.
I would also get Dell to sort that out.
It seems with the 16 or 13 you really do need to take out extended warranty, I can see loads of internal component problems later popping up because of the heat issue with both of these. -
*Fail*

God some dell reps are idiots. I got this guy who said sir your warranty only covers return to depot service. So i told him i payed for 2 year onsite he said well that dosent start till 2010 because you purchased it after you purchased the system. I said well i had my keyboard replaced by a technican and the person i spoke with when i bought the warranty said it will be active immediatly. So after about 10 mins of yelling at him he finally caved and said fine ill send a technican with an lcd, hinge and assembly. So all in all worst service i have received from them. But he said next time i have a problem ill have to send it back to him so im a little bit ticked but all in all my baby will be getting fixed sometime soon

You do have it with your system NOW..
Otherwise, Dell wouldn't have dispatched a OnSite Techn. the first time when you had the keyboard problem....Continuing Education would always be a good thing for some of the Dell Reps..again:
Ack.
Well, I am glad that you are getting it taken care of...And, may I suggest ~ that after this issue is all *said and done with, taken care* of..you forward a brief statement of what happened with the Dell Rep, onto Upper Mgmt? If you need an e-mail, let me know. They need to be aware of when these things happen, if not...the wrong information like this will continue to be told to consumers like you, and I..and everyone else..
I'm assuming that you will have someone in contact with you w/in 48 hours for the repair?

But, don't go off on the Manager..trust me, that will not get you anywhere. If no one contacts you w/in 48 hours (which they prolly will) just call back and be very direct/specific..ask for the confirmation info, by email for the onsite info

Dell tech just left my baby is like new. The guy i was talking didn't know what i was talking about so he sent a new screen and palmrest ( No stickers thow ) But the guy that came was the same guy who replaced my keyboard and he did a wonderful job and was very nice overall im satisfied

If you miss the case stickers, you can always buy them on eBay. I just got a 4-pack of case badge stickers for $1.99 shipped from China, with free shipping. Not bad at all. -
Glad you were able to get that fixed!.. now if they could just fix the feet so the laptop does not wobble slightly.. You would think they tested these laptops before they sell them to the general public.. the feet are not even.. duh
-
Mine is wobbly too...I was hoping it was an isolated defect, but I'm seeing more and more posts that lead me to believe otherwise. I'm so envious of all that report no heat issues...mine is worst right in front of the track pad. I should be getting a replacement...keeping my fingers crossed.
-
Yeah, I think anyone who has heat issues needs to just get with Dell and have them fix it.
Like I said in a previous post I used a M1210 that had constant heat problems with 2.0 4gb, and my 1640 is 2.93 with 8gb and averages 45c.
So they are supposed to run cooler, not sure if it's a motherboard issue, or what is causing the heat in some of these, but it's definitely a defect and should be covered under your warranty..
As far as the aluminum, mine is starting to form a gap around the hinge/light circle on the left side...so I think I'm going to be calling them up as well!!! -

(right gap could put in a slice of paper in the gap, on the left could put in a butter knife)
