Hey all, I know this problem has come up at least twice in other topics, just that I'm not sure wht to do seeing as the other guys were in warranty and I'm not. A basic summary of the problem is:
-Computer operated normally then suddenly turns off i.e. as if the adapter and battery has been taken out (my battery for the laptop ded 2 weeks after the warranty ended so I just used the notebook as a desktop alternative...)
-The adapter seemed to work normally in that the blue light turned on on plugging to the mains but on plugging into the notebook end it switches off and will not turn back on until te plug is taken out and re-inserted back into th mains
-With the above problems I bought a new adapter and battery (which was fully charged on arrival). The notebook did not power up with either the new batter and/or the new adapter
-On searching throught the forums here the problem seems to rest with the either the motherboard or power rail.
The issue is what do I do now?
-With my warranty out of date, Dell will not speak to me or a least I can't see on the website where I can contact them...
-I have tried to re-new my warranty through my account by e-mail but have had no reply in 3 weeks
-Been to a number of computer repairers and they won't touch the notebook due to he fact they can't get parts
Futhermore
-I am not living in the UK anymore (where the notebook was bought). Assuming I can get into contact with Dell, can I get the notebook repaired in the Netherlands, or do I need to return to the UK just to get it fixed or do I just admit that my money has been wasted and buy a new notebook an bin my Dell?
Any advice or experience on the above issues would be greatly appreciated.
James

go to dell.com, check your warranty status, then there should be a link to renew your warranty.... but id just sell it on ebay and get a much better laptop right now... your choice though

Only warranties 3 years or over are international,
But...
It Could be the motherboard issue which is quite wide spread, Dell have extended the warranty on the motherboard by 1 year, ( 2 yr total for you) so you might be in luck. However , you'd probably have to do it in the UK -
Dont know about the UK, but here in Norway you can file a complaint on any hardware that malfunctions within 5 years of purchase, regardless of warranty time. If the hardware does not meet the minimum requirements of operation, you should get a refund or at least a free repair. Warranty is used to avoid all the paperwork... But I'd call Dell if I were you.

James, did you manage to solve the problem?
I seem to find myself in exactly the same situation, only that I called Dell and despite my 1-year warranty expired they sent me a replacement charger. Well, as it appears the problem is in the power jack (PJ030 or PJ30) which I can buy on ebay and solder onto the motherboard. -
Di buying a new power jack work for you?
