This one has a newer CCC and display driver than the last. Download is up at: ftp://ftp.dell.com/video/R258233.exe

Is this some sort of Dell equivalent of beta software? It doesn't show up on my personalized driver page on dell.com, but yet it seems to support my GPU. Odd.

How did you find the ftp address?

 

Strange. While loading the CCC I noticed these options, which got hidden once the software fully loaded:

Dell doesn't make software drivers for a specific machine, they are generic builds that support all their systems. The part Dell doesn't do is release them to all the systems, instead focus only on an as-needed basis for most systems. If you want the latest and great version of the software and drivers, you have to keep track of releases for other machines.

 

those are legacy settings for WinNT 5.x - Windows Vista and 7 have them exposed in the OS's main power management control panel.

 

So. just to be sure, these will work on a 1645?
Is it worth it to upgrade?

 

yes and yes.

 

this messed up my machine. CCC took 5-10 minutes to load, it was buggy and super sluggish. Couldn't even move the window across the screen. Wouldn't detect any of my external displays or setting. Rolled back to the previous driver from 1/25. Everything back to normal.

Boo on this.

I am using Catalyst 10.3 Beta. Driver version 8.710.3.0.

YouTube videos seem to run smoother. I also noticed that the 2D desktop performance was enhanced.

 

I also am using the Driver Version 8.710.3.0 and it is working just fine on the SXPS 1645, no problems at all.

 

After upgrading to the 10.3 my CCC doesnt want to open anymore

 

First Uninstall ATi Driver from Its install manager in Programs and Features.
Restart the Computer.
Run Driver Sweeper and remove remaining ATI files.
Then install the Beta 10.3 driver.

Its works flawlessly for me.

Khurram, you may wish to try the link found at the very first post. This driver is very new and good enough for your purposes. If it works and powerdvd and others work, then you can do the more 'complicated stuff' with the other newer drivers.

Now here it goes, Even after you Uninstall any driver like of Nvidia or Geforce GPU some basic necessary files are left out and it may conflict with the Installation of a new driver so Driver sweeper helps you to Remove all the traces of the current driver.

First Unistall ATi Driver using ATi Install Manager in Programs and Features then restart the computer. Download and install Driver sweeper. When you run that program it has an option of ATi - Display. Check the box and click Analyse. It will find all its files and registry settings and they are auto checked. Just click on Clean and restart the computer when prompted. Then you can go ahead and Install the ATi Catalyst Driver.
