My m1530 has the 8600gt that is supposedly having issues. I updated the BIOS and my GPU temp never gets above 67C during my use.

So my question is, even if I have a gpu affected by the defect - could I just never see an adverse result because I never game on my system? The most load I ever put on my GPU is probably wathving movies.

Well if the GPU on yours fried you wouldn't be able to use the screen on it ... so you will know if it goes. It should never have a problems since you don't play games on it. I will be playing games but I will make sure to stress it out at first so if it fries they will replace it for free under warranty.

u should run a movie on your computer full screen on repeat for a few hours to see what the highest temp under stress would be

A movie won't really stress his system that much...

Download and install 3dmark05 and run it a few times then check your temperatures.
