My Dad just got the latest and greatest M1530 from DELL INC. but the first time turning it on was fine, but when selecting shut down, all it did was restart. I tried again but when i click shut down all did again was restart. Am I doing something wrong?? do i have a defective model??Also at only 4 days old had to do a system restore..anybody have the same trouble?

By default in windows vista the (I) standby button on the start bar is set to "restart" and not shutdown (it will tell you this if you hover over it and wait for the tooltip). Are you hitting this button or do you use the ">" to select the shutdown option ?

I think I'm having similar problems. Sometimes when I close the lid it suspends and other times it reboots.
Have you messed around with the BIOS? I notice mine started doing so after I set up HD password but I had only used the laptop for 2 days at that time. -
Hmmm, first thing to rule out is Vista,
So, if I where you, I would reinstall(re format) Vista.
