That's the only thing that's kept me from buying one.

If you could just throw on a 1440x900 LED backlit screen from the Studio 17, that would make the system perfect for me (good GPU, LED backlighting, and Blu Ray-all the things I want).

Yeah it would, I would be soooo happy if they came out with a WSXGA+ LED backlit screen, though they don't. They don't even have any for 17'' laptops.

I know what you mean, but LED just isn't mainstream yet and CCFL is still more dominant. Thats one of the reasons why I went with 15.4'' XPS M1530 just because they had an LED backlit screen.

I used to think LED was just.. well... LED, but after owning a tablet PC that is 12.1 inch, I was able to see that LED was really a whole world of a difference, so when I got my XPS M1530... wow... totally blew me away with the display.

There are tons of LCDs, but there are no Chi Mei 17'' LED backlit displays available.

Also keep in mind you cannot just buy any LCD with LED backlit just because the connectors may be positioned differently depending on brand/type/model of laptop. Just because you have the CMO LED backlit display for your Studio XPS M1530, you can't just stick it in an Acer 15.4 incher. Though there is the chance of sticking it into a Vosotro or an Inspiron just because Dell has certain standards they like to keep when making their notebooks.

Dell is setting down with LG to work on a long term contract for their displays, I assume that perhaps they will release a new montevina 17 incher XPS that will be using their display. Though I doubt they will make it in time for Montevina's launch. Probably one of the new options 6 months down the road.

I chose to do it myself get a spare keyboard.... took it appart and use the white LED light. Took the LCD unit appart and remove the original tube light ... get power internally from camera USB only need is soldering skill :D and now get rid of the inverter board straight after i get a system error LCD error i guess related to the missing inverter board "is will pop up only 1 time"... hahaha...
