Ok it looks like I'm finally going to sell my 1640 for a good price. Now I'm going to get a new one mainly for updated processor i5 or i7 and ati 4670.

its either going to be the i5-540M (2.53GHz, 4Threads, turbo boost up to 3.06Ghz, 3M cache

    or

i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)

I am a power user (lots of photoshop and gaming) but I do care about heat and power consumption. I want to get the best bang for my buck.

I'm thinking the i5 should be fine but it's still just an updated dual core. I have a T9550 now.

It's an updated dual core which can process 4 threads at once, compared to the Core 2 Duo which can only do 2.

Personally, I think the Core i7 is overkill for a laptop since it will generate far more heat, but that's my opinion. I'm eyeballing an i5 laptop once Dell puts the ATI 5000 series in.
