According to the specs online, the latest L521X's have backlit keyboards, however, the L521X I just received doesn't have a backlit keyboard. Technical support is confused as usual.

So do any of you guys have a L521X with a backlit keyboard?

    Thank you.

yup. I didn't know they could be got w/o one.

controlling the backlight is done via the mobility center ( windows-x -> mobility center, in w8 ).

I called tech support last night, and he checked the Bios, which indicated the one I have does not support a backlit keyboard.

I checked the mobility center, and it indicates the backlit keyboard is on full brightness.

They must have sent me an older build of the L521X?

alternative maybe, not necessarily old. Mine is from June '12 (fairly early) and it's lit. I didn't even know it was an *option* to not have a backlit keyboard on the machine.

of course, things can change a lot over time and the machine is a whole 18 months old almost, and the successor is out.

I upgraded mine and sure yours could be done as well.

picked my backlit keyboard up on eBay for about $ 25.00

don't have the unit now, but maybe someone could give you the part # of their keyboard and call dell and ask for it.
