I have an m1530 and my Windows 7 is on its way! I currently have 10gb just sitting there doing nothing thanks to the recovery partition from the factory and I was thinking of deleting that partition and creating a 50gb partition for windows 7 and having the remaining hard drive as storage for an easy future formatting environment. Anyway, I guess I have a couple questions:
1) Is there any reason to keep the recovery partition and am I safe to delete it and regain my 10gb?
2) 50gb might be too much, but Im not too sure what the windows 7 fingerprint is (15gb?). What is a good OS partition size for windows 7?
Thanks mates

I guess it comes down to how big is your HDD? ; )
If you've got plenty of room then why delete it now. I'd hold off until you need the space. If you are so short of space that 10Gb is needed elsewhere then 50Gb just for an OS is too big anyway.
I deleted my recovery so I could put the HDD's in Raid 0 but if it wasn't for that I would've just left it alone. It's handy to have an easy image without external drives. -
the ONLY time you maybe not should throw you over the delete button, is when you dont have any Recovery CD (Vista/XP CD). but DELL always send you a Recovery CD...so its ok in your case.
otherwise, just delete the damn thing....it take just Harddrive capability. -
I'd stay with it. CDs are not the most reliable thing and the CD drives oftenly get broken. It shouldn't be a problem if you have a USB with more than 4GB, as you can install many SOs with bootable USBs. Though, IMO, I'd stay with it. You never now when you need to make a clean quick install without the hassle of CD drives problems, CDs or USBs.
I tell you this, because I have a VAIO here which drive is dead and USB support is not the best thing in the BIOS. The recovery partition does wonders! -
I'd delete it if you have an OS disc or image. I have never kept my recovery partitions and never had any problems. If I want to fix a problem I just burn a disc and use it or mount the ISO and reinstall.

I created a disk with the image on my m1530 and deleted the partition. I say there is no reason not to if you can really use the additional space.
Any reason to not delete the recovery partition?
