    Greetings,

Windows 7 SP1 with all the updates.

I get an error everytime that execute IE9 64bit. Program will partiallly open before it stops and says there is a problem, that it is looking for a solution, then tries to close. IE9 32bit works fine.

The solution that MS sends back is that iMesh is installed and that I should uninstall it. The thing is, I've never installed iMesh, nor has there ever been any Win 7 pop up asking me for permission to install. Running CCleaner for the registry cleaning doesn't do anything.

I have tried uninstalling IE9 and going back to IE8. Both IE8 64bit and 32 bit work after reverting to that. Reinstalling IE9 again results in IE9 32bit working and the same error with IE9 64bit.

I have posted this on the MS Answer forum with no success. There have been others though and one that peaked my insterest was a person that just got their Dell XPS, so I figured that I'd post here to see if any other XPS users are having this issue. Find it hard to believe that it would be a hardware issue.

I had the exact same problem as you with 64-bit IE 9. I fixed it by following step 2 in this discussion here...
Unable to open the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) - Microsoft Reduce Customer Effort Center - Site Home - TechNet Blogs

Step 1 did nothing for me, so I re-enabled hardware-accelerated graphics. Step 2 is what made the difference. Good Luck!

You Da Man!! :D Answer 2 worked for me too!

Thanx much!! Will pass that info on to the MS Answers Forum!

    Thanx again!

(now all they need is a better 64 bit Flash addon)

    FYI,

Looks like the issue has finally been addressed by nVidia's new driver...
    Drivers and Downloads

In the section "Fixes and Enhancements" it says:
    Issue Fixed:
    ================================
Fix "IE 9.0 64 Bit does not work" issue

Well I like FF but it crashes all the time. Thought FF 5 would stop the flash plugin crashes but nope, at least not for me. So it's back to IE9. Seems faster than FF anyways...at least on my laptop it does.

I generally prefer FF because of all the awesome security/privacy add-ons, like noscript and adblockplus. That said, I still have to keep good ol' IE around because some of my work websites/portals, especially those with smart-card logons, don't work with FF. Besides, while still not the best, IE has gotten a lot better since IE8. I don't know why you'd want to use 64-bit IE though, you lose a lot of compatibility/functionality for a meager increase in security.

Agreed that IE is still needed for a few websites/portals that aren't standards-compliant (which would mean it doesn't matter what browser...), I have a few similar cases. But I refuse to fire IE up unless I have too...The Flash crashes in FF are annoying, but seem to have gotten a lot better with the latest update or two of Flash player. I think it was more of Flash's fault...

I have yet to permit any of my systems to download IE 9...8 actually isn't too bad, but I still hate the browser. Especially as someone who has done websites and had to fight IE's lack of rule-following (IE 6 was HORRIBLE in this).

On a related note, I heard something great on the news this morning. IE's global market share has dipped under 50%. Chrome is up to 20% (I don't dislike Chrome but I'm not in love right now either), Firefox is a similar number. The rest being Safari and a handful of Opera. But the important fact is that more people are getting away from the IE browser...WOOT!
