I purchased a Dell XPS 1730 five months ago with a three year extended warranty. I am wondering if I will have the option at the end of this contract to extend for another year after it expires? I am thinking to keep this notebook longer than I originally planned.
Has anyone extended your warranty with Dell before it expired? Was it worth it to you (in terms of price, etc.)?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards.

Yes, you can 'buy' a warranty extension... and IMO, its always nice to have a warranty if you are planning to keep your laptop with you longer.. But I guess you'd have to extend or buy the warranty 'before' the current warranty expires, No?? Check it out.. Cheers.

Does anyone know, how much it would cost to extend a normal warranty as I only have 1 year.
I tried phoning the warranty line but its always closed by the time I get home from work, and you cant see the cost on line.
By the By I live in the UK.
Sorry to highjack, but seemed fitting for your thread.
Thanks -
you have to buy it before it expires. but yes you can extend up to 5 years i believe
-
At the rate the XPS are going the extended warranty will be worth every penny.
-
Yes, you can do that now if you wanted...
How long do you plan on keeping your lappy??

This will be a long purchase.
So will keep until it dies.
Anyone know costs, as I cannot phone as they are only open mon-fri in the UK and tried emailing cust serv, and typical response... they said I need to phone.
So im kinda at a loss, Would phone if good price, but not spending an hour on the phone only to be told its £200.00 = $400.00 to extend.
I have not got that type of cash.
Thanks for your help guys
PS... I really cant understand Dell India, they will never give you a price via email, even though they are a computer corp. surley they have standard prices that they could just send. Beats me? -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
its only worth it if the warranty extension is 2-3 MORE years for 25% of your purchase cost... otherwise, its more worth it to get a new laptop with much better specs and probably better price 2 years down the road

But hey you cant turn back the clock,
My lappt was :
T8300 -PENRYN
250GB HDD 5400RPM
8600GTM DDR3
MIDNIGHT BLUE
3GB RAM
BLUETOOTH
DVD DRIVE
£680.00 = $1300.00 EST. -
I am in the UK and phoned dell to extend the warranty and got it down to £95 for 3 years which is a lot cheaper than they were offering at the time of purchase.
You can haggle, don't accept their first offer, they will phone you back 2 or 3 times to get the business. -

Back before the end of my standard 1 year warranty and before my NVIDIA GPU up and died on me, I tried to get ahead of the curve by extending my warranty to cover myself in case of a dead GPU.
I was quoted $255CAD for 1 year or $500 for 2 years of warranty extension. This was for the standard ship-to-depot warranty. My laptop was worth probably... $1000-$1100 at the time. No amount of haggling could make them budge.
Needless to say, I told them to bugger off and took my chances. -

i would deff get it. ive only had my m1530 for like 5 days but the screen has already screwd up twice. stupid manufactures dont know how to plug in the laptop screen properly. hey also is it normal to be able to hear a *kachun* sound come from ur laptop?
-
Highly worth it I feel.
@Canada16: Just ring up during normal business hours, trust me, once they get a sniff you want to spend money they will harass you to part with it! -
Heck, I`m considering it , but I`ll wait till 2011 when my current warranty expires...
-
I extended mine by 3 years about 8 months after getting it - think I paid about £130.
-
My system was refurbished and came with the standard 1 year, can I still get the extended warr? thanks
-
And, they will prob's also call you to see if you want to extend.
You may also be able to extend it yourself, online ~ via your service tag number!

Great info, thanks Cin!
-
I will be at that point when my 1530's and my Netbook's warranty is almost near expiration!

Do you want to have Accidental Protection to??
I would prob's go with the 2 years additional (depending on cost):
Extended 2 Years Next Business Day, and the 2 Years Complete Care
I only say this because you stated you wanted your lappy to last as long as possible. You have to decide on how long you want to keep the 1530 based on changing technology, the cost of the warranties, if you want 1 or 2 years.
And, yes that does look like the right place to renew. Otherwise, you can call Dell and speak with a Rep, that handles extending the warranties, they have one set up for this. I called Dell once, and accidentally got transferred to that dept!
Cin -
I guess i'd prefer the 2 years, but i don't know if i'm willing to fork out nearly another $100 for accidental cover, i mean i'm not made of money and i'm not very clumsy. i always take very good care of my technology items. And if i ever had a power surge, i guess i could just lie and say something like it just doesn't turn on. -
And, I can't comment on the *lying*, just that it's not right to do that. When, in the end it always catches up with you.
Cin -
Oh and about the lying, i know its not right, you know i didn't mean flat out lying, just maybe twisting the truth pretending to not know that happened or so forth
Anyways it wouldn''t matter though as i'm thinking i'll go with the complete cover, $79 AU extra is probably worth it in the end, but i'll still talk to Dell and see what happens.
Thanks Cin for the help
Anyone extend or renew your existing Dell warranty?
