    Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has who has had noisy headphone jacks on the 1530 has had then sucessfully fixed? This is my last issue (hopefully ;) to fix, and I know Dell will suggest a motherboard replacement. Others have already had this happen and say the issue still persists afterwards. Has anyone had a motherboard change and had the problem go away?

Anyone else have any other work done, or any other solutions that helped? Am hoping someone has pulled things apart and played around like the 1520 guys have done. Sadly their solutions don't work since they board layout is totally different.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't have the problem, but, just out of curiosity, is your power adapter 2pin or 3pin?

I have the problem the OP mentioned and i have a both 2 and 3 prong adapters, the problem is present on both adapters as well as on battery power. Ironically the problem is only obvious when using the included creative headphones, had i never used them and gone straight to my in ear sony headphones i probably would have never noticed the jack noise as above normal but now i look for it.

There is a problem with something or another inside the cases on the new Inspirons that is causing people to get feedback though the headphone jack. There is a fix out there, I am not exactly sure where, might even be on this site not exactly sure. I found it through the dell community forums when I had it. It was quite the process to get rid of it, taking stuff apart and then covering one of the components in electrical tape to prevent it from touching anything metal which is what is causing the problem. In the long run I was not comftorable taking the whole laptop apart for that, but maybe if it bugs you that much you might want to. Anyways just though I would let you know that there is def a fix for it if you wanted to look for it.

The only good news about the 1520 and 1530 headphone jack noise is Dell offers the Creative Express-card sound cards for $65 plus shipping - I just ordered one on Monday after finding a link here on NBR....

The Creative X-Fi ExpressCard is not worth the money, it's $65 for the card and another $35 for the 5.1/7.1 adapter. Total rip off by Creative, I paid $49 brand new for the Audigy 2 PCMCIA card and it included the adapter.

I suggest you look elsewhere for a USB solution.

Thanks all, but an add on solution is NOT a solution for me, when others have no issues with their onboard sound. I have a 3 prong power adaptor, and as mentioned by HMaster92 the issues occur on both AC and battery.

HMaster92, it's not just the included ear buds. It has to do with the headphone's impedence rating is my guess. Since earbuds typically require less power to drive it's more noticable. My Senheiser headphones don't really pick it up, but I need the volume much louder than my US$250 ultimate ears super.fi pro 5 ear buds, which also pick up the interference. Changing headphones to "mask" the issue is not a solution.

MogRules, I have an XPS laptop, as per my OP the Inspiron fix does not apply due to different board layout.

Bump - anyone has this issue fixed? And if so, how was it fixed by Dell?

    okey...here's what worked for me:

the static you hear from your earbud is caused by hardware interferences from the other sound devices and modules, namely the microphone and the PC out. Disabling them would solve the problem.

    In plain English:

Open control panel, Classic Control Panel, Sound.

Under the "Playback" tab, select "Speakers/Headphones" and click "Properties" below. Then, in the new window opened, click on the "Levels" tab, and mute the "PC Speaker" by clicking on the blue speaker symbol behind it, and Voila! the annoying static should now be eliminated!

Post if this procedure works for you.

P.S. the Muting the PC speaker does NOT mute your laptop's on-board speaker, it only mutes the internal PC outlet jack, which is useless anyways, and interferes with your earphone jack, so there's no negative impacks to muting it....you'll never use it anyways.....

Nah, I already have this disabled. Problem still persists. It's a hardware only issue just like the inspirons.
