Very strange considering their current xps range, the m1330 and m1530 in particular, are some of their most popular notebooks to date. I've still got a feeling they will release new xps laptops for that reason.

also the link to the article posted on geek.com has been updated to inform

"Update - 5/14/08 8:39am - It looks like the WSJ jumped the gun on their announcement. Dell has posted on their blog that both XPS and Alienware will “live on”"

XPS will LIVE ON!!! now theres still the question of when the new models will be released.

    old news..

dell is pushing their gaming platform to alienware, but keeping xps brand for performance and 'stylish' looks

m1330 and m1530 arent reallyga ming laptops...m1330 is a (ultra)portable laptop at a sleek price...

Nobody really knows. So it's either the best kept secret Dell have ever had... or the series has indeed flatlined.

With new 13" Apple Macbooks inbound, I would expect some M1330 developments to surface soon if they were ever to do so. This, as the older of the two XPS notebooks would determine the outlook for the M1530.

I hate how they never release these new developments before school starts. I'm sure they'd make more money that way. Maybe it's just because of overstocked warehouses. If there was an option of a new XPS I'd get it definitely, but now that I already have the XPSM1530 no point looking into the new line. The new Macbooks seems interesting though, can't wait to see what they decide to do, since the Air was simply a bust.

I wouldn't expect Dell to continue selling an outdated model with a defective video card until the Fall while the competition begins selling Centrino 2 models with ATI cards.

I'd like to see them go back to something akin to the M1710, before they got all crazy with the 1730.

No frustrating SLI, just a single, super fast GPU (7950GTX still kicks butt...)
No dual HDD with its additional weight and power costs.

Both options are just a waste of money imho, especially with the hassle that comes with SLI. Yet there's no option to build with just a single GPU and HDD, at least in NZ.

Leave the crazy stuff to Alienware and the likes, and refresh the solid style, functionality and value that was the 1710...

I would say based on what we have seen from different sources including whats listed under the Dell diagnostic/driver releases that we will see a an XPS-M1340 and XPS-M1640 pretty soon. I would think the M1640 is going to be based off the 16x9 Prototype system that Dell showed at CES earlier this year.
