Why is this better than the DW1830? I looked at the specs, and DW1830 has 3x3 while Intel 8260 is only 2x2...

If you look around you'll find always complains on every products... every wifi cards..
There's no Wifi Card that rules them all just now.
it's come down always at the pair WiFi card-Router.

For examples I've the R7000 Netgear... with the DW1830... well the pair simply rocks!.... two broadcom chip, 3x3 antennas. pair with other routers and maybe the DW1830 simply sucks...
Intel 8260 is only 2x2 card, you loose speed with the right router...

If you use Bluetooth anything I highly recommend going with the Intel card

Don't bother switching cards unless you're experincing bluetooth issues.

    Intel 8260 here, btw.

I connect to a BT Solar inverter to see how much power it produces, with the 1830 card in I had to be a metre or so away but with the Intel I can be 2 rooms away and get a solid signal. It also seems to have a better range for wireless especially on the 5Ghz band.

I'm not bothered having 1300Mbps wireless connection as my ADSL is only 24Mbps and I dont transfer much from machine to machine these days so the speed is overkill! :)

    I am.
I just can't stand that terrible driver of DW1830, which leads to frequent random BSODs with a Bluetooth device connected.

If you get BSOD just check event viewer or or by some utilities to see what is the drivers that crashed... usually is about ACHI/RAID drivers... some major drivers...

Do you have a screenshot of what even viewer would display if it actually was the ACHI/RAID drivers? I have no idea how to use eventviewer, and my computer has BSOD'd about 5 times in 2 days

just right click on start menu, pick event view...look for event type - Critical..
better download BlueScreenView it can read the dump files and show the info in a easy way.
Intel ACHI is iastor x example...
