I still can't decide if I'm going to pull the trigger on this XPS 1530 or not, despite the rumor/threat that the $669, now $594 coupon is going away perhaps as early as morning...

Yeah, good question. I suppose I'd like to see what the LED screen options are as well as Penryn chip options...

I seriously don’t think you’d get either one of those options with the current discount .

i doubt they will add the penryn to the m1530 but maybe to the 1525 since has so few selection like duo 1.5 pross!!!!. dell might just be waiting to add it to the 1525 XD or to the 16" m1530 look alike -_-

That's what I'm waiting for as well. I'd typing on one already if I had the option to buy it with the LED screen.

But I don't really need a new laptop, just in love... :) So if the deal goes away, I only saved my money and can buy a better one later.

NO, they will add Penryn to M1530, because it is already in the M1530 specification and user manual (check M1530 documentation at support.dell.com). But I don’t think they will introduce those additions with a huge discount.

I'm holding out for an updated m1530, specifically for penryn and hopefully a 8700gt or maybe even a 8800gtx option. LED Display would be nice for the little bit of height it gets rid of and even maybe an improved color gamut on the screens.

Does anyone know of the display differences of the CCFL vs LED displays on the m1330?

8800 wouldn’t happen, my guess is neither does 8700M GT. Remember that M1530’s chassis is slimmer than most regular sized 15.4” notebooks => not very good at handling heat.

Use this to find your answerers :p .
But in summary: slimmer, brighter, better battery life and viewing angles.

    PhoenixFX,
    Why wouldn't a 8700GT be an option, isn't it just a 8600GT with a 200mhz clock advantage?

I’m not saying it’s a technical limitation; but when you look at their line up, especially with the upcoming 16” XPS notebook, the chances are very low.
    My prediction:
M1330 will stick to 8400M GS
M1530 will max out with at 8600M GT DDR3
M1630 (or whatever they decide to call the 16” XPS) will have 8600M GT (perhaps with 512MB VRAM) and will max out with a 8700M GT
finally M1730 will get 8800M GT/X when it comes out.

BTW these are all speculations, just what I think......

16 inch laptop? Wow, that's a interesting one. Yeah, I agree, the m1530 is already slim to the point I doubt they want the additional heat generation from the 8700m GT chipset. Then I would agree that the 16 inch future system would probably offer a higher end graphics chipset while the 1530 sticks with the 8600m.

Don't hold out any longer if you saved up enough for a new laptop! If you keep holding out, you'll never find what you want. Unless money is not an issue for you, then I'd say go for it if you found a good deal you really think is close to what you originally wished for.

By the time you wait and wait, better technology will appear and they will add to the cost and you'll want to wait for the price to go down for them ... and so on... by that time, it'll be 6 years down the road and you are still wishing for a new laptop. Oops, it's not like I'm describing my own personal experience or anything like that.... uh, yeah... LOL

sure 4 core now seems a good time to wait for but next year 8 core is coming out -_- no apps can't be run by a duo so y wait if penryn is rite after the promotion and i doubt that xps systems would have such a great discount for a long time..maybe next christmas?

Only if you get the 2.5 and above, otherwise your stuck with 3MB of cache.

Watch that statement on the no apps can be run by a dual core. I will assume you mean utilize a dual core and I can think of a a lot of apps including a number of games that will utilize the dual core technology.

Also from the looks of this http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/core2duo.htm
    and
    http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/core2xe.htm
Core 2 Dual is all that will be out for notebooks as the T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500 are for the Notebooks and Extreme version will be the X9000. So no 4 core.

I just cannot pull the trigger!

I want the LED ... but seeing the new 1650x1050 screen is nice. (or I think it is new - I've not seen the option before)

I'm not too worried about the $669 deal or whatever it has become, I like the -$400 much better since I can get it with 1gb RAM and upgrade myself along with not having to take the other upgrades.

My sentiments exactly. I'm itching to "add to cart" and order but am waiting for the LED. I was at this same point with the M1330 last fall, waited because of the build issues, and had my patience rewarded with the release of the M1530. I think I can wait a bit longer. :swoon:

Hmm, when do you think the penryn laptop(s) will be released by dell?

I just hope that the Uk and US get it at the same time....
I've delayed my M5130 purchase for 1 month just for this ^_^
