Anyone tried using 65W adaptor with M1530? (PA-12)

Same as title, anyone tried using this combination for some period of time? On the bottom of the laptop it says it is compatible with both PA-10 (included 90W) and PA-12 (65W).

Obviously the system will charge slower, however will it still run the gpu (and cpu of course) at full speed successfully? And if anyone has tried gaming heavily under this setup, does the system deplete in battery at all while gaming?

I've run other laptops on power supplies with inadequate wattage in the past, and there are no negative consequences, except the computer charges slower, and in my case the wattage difference was significant enough that under really heavy gaming the battery would very slowly deplete even while plugged in. That was an extreme case though (75W vs 45W, and heavy OC/d gaming).

Appreciate any thoughts. I'm planning on keeping the ugly monstrosity of the PA-10 for the desk, and buying a sleek little PA-12 (there are a couple different models, I've found very small ones) for the laptop bag. Probably won't see much gaming on that setup really, but I thought I'd ask about the worst case scenario if anyone has tried it.

I've once accidently plugged my M1330 power plug into my M1530's. The BIOS gives you a warning about the slower charge and power distribution and two options: continue or shut down. I chose shut down to be safe.

I would like to know vice versa as well.

What would happen if i plug in a 90W adapter into a m1330 which has T8100 (comes with 65W by default)

I have plugged a 65W Latitude D610 charger into an Inspiron requiring a 90W charger. I received a notification saying it may charge and perform slower but it seemed to run fine. This was a fairly extreme case, as I plugged a 17" Desktop replacement into the charger for a 14" thin-and-light. I would imagine an m1530 would run fine on it.

When I bought my D420 it have me an option to buy a 90W adaptor which would give faster charge time, it is probably a similar case with the m1530.

I just purchased a 65W PA-12 adapter from eBay for my M1330 and received it yesterday. Unfortunately, as soon as I booted up the computer with the adapter in - it let me know that it couldn't determine the adapter.

So with the adpater in, I only had one option of powering the computer and not charging the battery.

The weird thing is, is that right now I'm using my mom's PA-12 65W adapter from her Inspiron E1405 and it powers and charges my M1330 just fine.

*sigh* I put it back on eBay, I hope that I may be able to recoup my costs.... good thing I didn't spend that much on the adapter.

It may be a silly question but: Did you try it again? It may just be a glitch (has happened to me before).

I have a PA-21 on my M1330, which works fine on the M1530 aswell.

You get a prompt regarding the different power, but its turned off forever if you press F3.

No noticable performance slow downs... :)

    non-Dell : no charging, CPU throttled by 66% (eg 2.4GHz -> 799MHz)

65W for 90W machine : might charge, runs fulls speed.

Would that suggest that JustBrowsing may have picked up a Dell fake charger off eBay??
