I have replaced my installed toshiba harddrive with the c300 128mb version and moved the toshiba to the second hd port. And i`m getting occasional freezes when doing intensive cpu or hard drive tasks.
Its been going on for a few months, have tried latest crucial 007 firmware and have the latest bios and drivers for the l702x. Anyone else noticed problems with this setup.
Thanks
Paul

Has the old drive been wiped or at least had Windows purged off of it? Slim chance, but there could be some Windows conflicts occurring.
-
No it still has the initial windows installation on it, just in case things went wrong with the ssd. Is it worth trying to rename the windows directory you think?
Thanks -
Well I highly doubt it is the issue, but can you just remove the drive entirely for a while and see how it behaves? Understanding you probably have data and all on the drive, but with 128GB I'm guessing your programs are all on the SSD.
If the issues are really only under very heavy loading, how is the CPU looking? Is it at 100% or near that? Or how about RAM usage? It could be that you are maxing something out somewhere too.
This doesn't sound totally like the LPM issue which of course I think FW 0007 was supposed to fix anyway. That issue is under all usage scenarios, very often under light. -
pr, you could try the LPM fix just in case. If the problem goes away, you are good to go. See Method 1 in the first post at: http://forum.notebookreview.com/solid-state-drives-ssds-flash-storage/578915-crucial-m4-micron-c400-ssd-series-thread.html. This is reversible later if need be.

ok thanks, had tried the LPM fix before but with no effect.
Its difficult to work out what is actually causing the problem, for example i`ve had it sometimes slowdown when loading a website in chrome. When I had mcafee anti-virus installed it was doing it when watching a film causing the video to stop and sound to stutter. I since replaced mcafee with kapersky which seems to have less overhead and things have improved. But i do get slowdown if I`m rendering in Maya, I get 1-2sec pauses of the mouse or slight jittering as I move. None of this happens if remove the ssd and I boot from the hd.
I will try removing the hd all together.
Thanks

Is your SSD aligned?

(separate issue I thought I would highlight on this thread).
I bought the L702x 3D spec about 4 weeks ago and graced it with a Crucial M4 256gb SSD.
I installed all drivers (current) in recommended order and applied all Windows 7 updates to Service Pack 1 etc.
Everything was fine when I used mains power, but the moment I unplugged and ran on battery, I got a blue screen within minutes. This would happen 2-3 times an hour if i remained on battery!!
I spent so much time trying to identify the problem and narrowed it down to either the WLAN drivers (for Centrino 6230 card) or the SSD.
Yesterday I took out the M4 and installed a 256gb C300 SSD and am now testing this for a week or so to see if I experience any issues.
I am pretty sure the issue lies with the power latency in the M4 drive as I have used a C300 drive in my previously owned L701x and never experienced any problems with it.
Sorry...I know this doesn't assist you with your issue but I just wanted to point out that there are also problems with the M4 model (outside the LPM issue).
Cheers

barlow, interesting issue, and one I've NOT experienced myself. I run on battery all the time with no trouble with my 256GB M4. Also have the 6230 wireless. I suppose it could be something about the 3D system, but I'd kind of doubt it.

It's something to do with Intel RST and the M4 but I cannot isolate the issue.
It doesn't affect everybody but is definitely happening as can be seen here and from my (horrible) experiences over the last few weeks.
I'm going to hammer the C300 over the next few weeks to see if I can replicate the issue (hopefully not) and then I know it's definitely the M4 in this instance that is causing the problems. -
I`ve just tried removing the hd and leaving just the c300 installed and it works without an slowdown, I was rendering and had 2 videos running simultaneously without issue. So both drives work fine on their own but not together.
Could the crucial and toshiba be incompatible? -
I have a C300 and the Seagate 500Gb drive and have no problems.
When I first started researching the L702x, I came across this thread. It talks about different symptoms than you describe, but it's about an issue with the C300 and the Toshiba HDD. Maybe that will help. I actually ordered the 500Gb drive because of this potential issue.

This doesn't help the OP as he already stated his firmware level, but for those with the M4 having issues, make sure you have firmware 0002, it fixes the LPM issue for just about everyone (MAC users included!).
Anyone using Crucial C300 ssd and l702x??
