I saw the review ofthe Netgear unit that dell offers, and most of the feedback seemed negative.

Is anyone using a different unit? Any recommendations?

Are you referring to the refreshed unit with 1080p support?

The laptop needs to support it AND you need the wireless adapter.

I think any 502 with 2nd gen processor should support it. You don't need to buy the adapter now, you can buy it later.

It's the 702's with 3D enabled that don't support widi.

    Thanks for the correction :)

Do some of the core i5's support it, or only those core i7's listed above?

You can check yourself at the Intel ARK site. I just checked for the lower-end i5 2410M and it does include support, so it is not just the i7.

many processors listed above are i5.
I do copy & paste from intel site.
In category i7 there are some i5 Sandy Bridge for example 2540M, 2520M.

Maybe so, but why Have they put in list only some processors?
I think wireless display support coincides with support to new AES instructions.
    Compare Intel® Products,
if you see Intel site above, you can see that processors have Wi-Di support
    have AES New Instructions too.

If you have reason, means that XPS 17 3D hasn't wireless support because it's has integrated GPU disabled.

I wish Dell would spare some staff time to be on these forums. Makes such a difference, when it's done right...

No, because the 2410M which has WiDi does not have support for AES acceleration.

Excellent point. You are almost certainly correct.

But if you look up the processor specifications, it does have WiDi support. So, it either didn't make the short list because it was too cheap (if you are looking for an Intel-exclusive feature, then they don't have to compete on price in the same way) or because it is OEM only (of which, Dell is one of those manufacturers).

You have reason, there is WiDi support in 2410M spec, but not is in WiDi list so there is something wrong or incomplete.
But There is not 2630QM WiDi support in both specifications.

    Conclusion:
WiDi list is incomplete, there isn't OEM products, even if they have this function.
Some processors as OEM 2630QM not have this feature at all.

    We will see..
But 2630QM supports WIDI. It only depends on integrated GPU und a Wireless Adapter from Intel with WIDI Support.
The Intel Processor list was released before the 2630QM.

Look at the Specs of this Samsung Notebook. It has a 2630QM + integrated Intel Graphics + Nvidia GT525.
    And it officially supports WIDI.

    2630QM e 2720QM are released together.
You see complete spec of 2630QM (OEM product):
    Intel® Core? i7-2630QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.00 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR02Y
    and 2635QM (OEM product)
    Intel® Core? i7-2635QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.00 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR030
    No WiDi support

    instead
    2720QM spec:
    Intel® Core? i7-2720QM Processor (6M Cache, 2.20 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR00W, SR014
    2715QE (OEM product) spec:
    Intel® Core? i7-2715QE Processor (6M Cache, 2.10 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR076
    2710QE (OEM product) spec:
    Intel® Core? i7-2710QE Processor (6M Cache, 2.10 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR02T
2410M (OEM product like 2630) spec:
    Intel® Core? i5-2410M Processor (3M Cache, 2.30 GHz)with SPEC Code(s)SR04B, SR04G
    They have WiDi supprt

But maybe you have reason, looking in XPS17 3D page, founded this:
Hassle-free way to share content on the big screen now in full high definition (1080p) with Intel® Wireless Display ready laptops. (not available with 3D panel).
Dell XPS 17 Laptop Details | Dell
XPS 17 3D panel have integrated GPU disabled.

So why then Samsung release a Notebook with the 2630QM and advertise WIDI ?
I believe you cant give anything on those Intel Specs. We will see when the first people get their XPS with the 2630QM

The XPS17 has WIDI. But in the 3D Panel model the integrated GPU is disabled. So no Widi because only the NVidia GPU is available.
