I know I know. I'm so sorry. Feel free to move or kill the thread and please be gentle Les.![]()
Back in the day I remember reading all about the potential of turbo memory and for some reason it entered my mind again last night. Thanks to my insomnia I spent a fair bit of time reading over the various threads and articles both here and elsewhere but most of them are a good 6+ months old. Has anything changed during that time and are the people who did go down this route still using it? Just curious because there wasn't a lot of concrete data in the previous threads on the subject. Considering you can now pick them up for £16/$31 and with the price of memory falling all the time coupled with the increased SSD take-up I would assume that the technology has either died or is hibernating for now. Either way I thought it might be interesting to see what people think at this stage, particularly those who have them.
My incoming laptop has 4GB RAM and the 64GB SSD but at that price I might be tempted to get one to experiment with, even if that means using another laptop.
EDIT: And just to prove that I am clearly suffering from the insomnia I'm sure you can all spot the obvious and rather asinine error. Today is not going to be a good one.![]()

You idiot, not this discussion again...
-
The insomnia clouded my judgement. I think it would be interesting to find out how many people are still using it though. I'm sure I'm in for a great hazing considering the error I made...

Lol I think we should take it easy on Teso Dos Bichos, I mean he DOES realize that he asked this question AGAIN, and he DID apoligize! Come on we all make an all out stupid and retarded we-should-be-kicked-off-here-mistake once in a while, don't we? Lol I'm joking, no worries man, but yeah, with 4 GB memory turbo memory is nothing, so dont' get it.
Welcome and enjoy your stay here at NBR!!! -
Not needed with an SSD and 4gb ram...
-
Turbo memory only makes a difference if you have <2gigs of ram.

If I'm allowed to choose 2 options in a Poll:
'Nay' and 'You idiot, not this discussion again...' -
who voted 'yay'?!?!
-
lamo yeah who the hell voted in favour?
-
I made the votes public. Still waiting to see if anyone is still using ITM at this stage. I know it would have a minimal impact on my system but I'm still interested in the technology.

No need to get Intel Turbo Memory. I'm running Vista x64 with 4GB RAM and Mtron SSD and its fast!
-
I use Vista home premium on my M1330 with 4gb of ram and i have the turbo memory... It shows at least a 10 second faster boot WITH turbo memory installed. I know its true because i was messing around with the wireless card/turbo memory to see which one was producing heat and took the turbo memory card out and it INSTANTLY booted slower, put it back in and i was right back to 10 seconds faster. Say what u will about the card, but it works.

Lol why the hell are people voting "yay"????
-
I have 4 gbs of RAM
Will this turbo cache ready boost have any relevance to me?
It says something about making startup faster but there was too much to read. -
-
Anyone know what impact it has on boot time when you factor in a tweaked OS and an SSD? Or will I just have to buy it to find out...
To be honest I'm interested in the technology and you can pick it up for peanuts so I might just do that. There doesn't appear to a consensus in regard to it anyway.
Best case it has an impact and worst case I have wasted a couple of hours wages. -
I think you just have to buy it to find out. I personally don't think shaving a couple seconds off of your boot time is worth 40 bucks or so because the impact ITM has is negligible.
-
LOL why are people CONTINUING to vote yay???!?!?!?!?!?!?
-
-
Lol fair enough.
-
Why can't I vote yay? As long as I found it useful on MY system :0)
-
I dont know about overall system performance... the biggest place i see it doing its job is at boot. I paid 20 dollars for mine brand new off of amazon so 20 bucks for 10 seconds off my boot time? i'll take that. You cant ask questions like this on a forum like this because there are way too many people who answer that obviously don't know what the heck they are talking about and just spit out a subjective answer because they have actually never used it.
My best suggestion is to buy it, if u like it great, if not sell it again. They seem to sell for around the same price you buy them for on ebay. -
I voted yay.
My Vostro 1500 did not come with Turbo Memory module, I added myself for just $30. I see slightly more free memory (~300MB), programs start quicker, and computer boots faster. I think it is a worthwhile upgrade. See the configuration details in my sig.
I saw so many laptops in such horrible mess, I am not surprised that many people do not see any benefit.
Apologies in advance - XPS M1330 & Intel Turbo Memory...
