I was running a game (EverQuest) as Administrator on my new 1645.

While chatting ingame, I noticed that I cannot use the apostrophe key, nor does shift+apostrophe key work for a quote.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate when I received the laptop. Is there any settings I should check to see why it's not working? The game isn't using that key for anything as far as I can find, and it works fine on my old Inspiron 1520.

    Any ideas?

try booting to safemode. if it doesnt work there most likely it's defective.
if you want to make sure you can run diagnostics on the keyboard

Fn+Power button (release when computer turns on)

go thru the initial PSA diagnostics.
    skip the remaining memory test
    choose test system.
choose custom test. > you should find a test for the keyboard here

and yeah.. most likely it's the keyboard. and it will be replaced anyway.

It's not a brokey keyboard. I have the same problem with my ASUS G50. In both some games and my dos emulator the " ' " key and " \ " keys do not function properly, but do so otherwise. any advice would be great
