Is there a guide available anywhere showing how I am supposed to renew the thermal paste on these laptops (I have 1645 in particular). I heard it can have a great deal of effect on temperatures.

ITs really very easy. The only thing you have to do is remember where the LCD panel leads connect to. 2 screws for the heatsink and 3 leads need to be removed to lift the copper heatsink out and done. (take a picture for reference).

Oh and the vent cover swivels sidways then slides out.

Sorry guys, I was extremely busy this week but tomorrow for sure ill be doing the guide. Im going to record it but don't expect a super quality video edited guide because I do not have time for that.

Edit: You need isopropyl alcohol(99% or high purity)/arctic clean solution would work too with Q-Tips to clean up the previous compound. So please have that handy guys. so when the video is ready to go you just follow it.

Also watch this video on why I will not spread the compound but put a pea size dab of the compound and let the pressure spread it. You do not want air pockets between your cpu and heatsink, it will cause a lose of the thermal interface and wont work optimal.

Stay tuned I will be posting the video in 5-6 hours, I got muay thai right now will be back and start recording around 1-2pm EST and post it.

Can I use it for the GPU too? It works the same way, put a little point above the chip?

Which one do you think is better - AS5 vs MX-3. I have MX-3 but wondering whether to replace it with AS5

Great work man. very helpful. I noticed your note about not spreading the compound once applied. There has been a lot of different theories whether to spread or not and how-to. Thanks for the vid.
