iv notived that the studio 15 (1555) is getting a upgrade soon and a slight design change, and maybe the 17" studio too. the studio 15" is getting the 4570 soon and maybe the studio will get a better one too.

so will the studio ps get a new GPU too?
it would be amusing to see a low budget 15" multimedia laptop perform near dells high end gaming/multimedia made for performance and quality.

also even more funny to see a studio 17" maybe beat it.

i find it stupid how only MSI have started using the 4XXX ATI cards when they are so good.
some companies are on 3XXX still, its been like over ayears and a half now :( .
shamefully the FW wont get a 4XXX GPU and i need a upgrade now at my pc is a pain.

Not too sure yet but i wont be surprised if a 4650/70 comes sooner then later.

Why dont you go with an Asus instead? At least that way you'd be able to get a 4*** right away.

Is this happened, it would seal the deal on a Dell as my next laptop. Would be nice in a rebuild of the 1730/1530 :D

thrs no asus laptops under £1000 in the UK.

the only 4xxx laptop in the uk is the MSI :(

i would have loved one in the FW i am getting, i cant see sony doing it though. i would have liked a 4860,4640,4650 as they are all agming standard but only 128 bit bus. companys should start puting them in laptops and they would sell like crazy.

im not much of a gamer tho, the last pc game i played was bfme2 and the next one i want is Starcraft 2 which i can proably play in good settings and it will be the CPU limiting me as its a RTS. other then then, ps3 FTW.

I doubt that that update would come on the Studio XPS, as they have Nvidia chips in them. Atleast from what I was looking at.

I don't think the XPS is due for refresh just yet. I would like to see Dell jump to 4650/4670 for the XPS sooner rather than later, but i don't think it will happen for at least 3 months. Having it as additional option, just has to be a better idea than not at all, but Dell don't usually see it this way.

The Studio's move to a 4xxx was always planned, and was part of the road map from at least August last year that it would appear about now. 4570 64bit bus means it's still likely to perform well under the XPS's 3670, So the XPS will be faster regardless of the Studio.

More interesting will be the choice for the 17" studio, with a possible 4650 perhaps, that is likely before the XPS update. Studio15 1555, has been sold already down here (Australia) for a few weeks with 4570, I wasn't aware it wasn't out in the states. (There are 256 and 512Mb options)

Dell isn't going to move to ATI cards on the SXPS <del>models</del> 13. It's Nvidia based, and it'll stay that way. The 16 will likely move up, but not very soon - it was just launched a little while ago. I don't see the standard XPS models getting upgrades anytime soon - they aren't even on Montevina yet. The Studio models seem likely to get the ATI 4xxx treatment - it just seems logical. And that Dell support page is quite solid evidence.

The SXPS 16 uses a Radeon 3670 already and it is on Montevina.

    so are the 4xxx gpu's a lot better then nvidia's 9xxx?

the 4860 (128bit bus) is better then the 4850 and gets 10K+ in 3dmark06.

The ATI cards are supposed to offer a more integrated solution for handling HDMI and Blueray. The Studio XPS is not a gaming laptop, more of a multimedia one, so the ATI is a perfect fit.

Dell are very slow to do anything these days. They don't seem to really care about being 'first' with new technology. New platforms, new CPUs, new GPUs, they don't really care, they will release them when they feel like it, usually months after every other manufacturer.

Look at their M1730 - it is supposed to be their super-expensive 'flagship' and it is still on Santa Rosa, and only just moving to 98xx cards.

Yes, they are slow, but if people by their laptops even if they have old tech, then they will stay with the tech that is selling. Most normal people don't care about having the latest tech, as long as it's inexpensive and does the job.
