Are same-size screens interchangeable between laptops? (XPS 15 L502X to Inspiron 15R N5110/5520)

I have an unused 1080p B+RGLED screen (B156HW01 V.7) and an FHD ribbon cable (V73D3) which will be used to upgrade our second L502X from the Outlet. I would gladly cancel this recent order and get a higher spec'd Inspiron 15R for the same price if the B156HW01 V.7 works in it.

I've read that laptop displays usually have model-specific configurations but it seems that given the correct ribbon cable, a screen with the same connector, size, resolution, and backlight should work normally (even if it's too thick to fit under the bezel).

the screens have to be of the same type and have the same connectors in order to be interchangeable
