This is at idle (although it is about 85 degrees F and humid at my house). But this is with a Antec cooling pad with my SXPS16 on an angle.

    It feels a little hot...

Nope, those aren't uncommon temps. You should give undervolting a try. After undervolting my idle temps are in the 30's and stress temps in the 50's, Celcius of course. Follow this well written guide. This will make a huge difference to internal temps but for the comfort of the user a notebook cooler isn't a bad idea. For coolers I'd recommend the Zalman NC2000 and Antec Cooler To Go.

I have the Antec Cooler to Go. It works pretty well but is a little small for the SXPS16. It was perfect for my M1530 though. I will try undervolting since there does not seem to be any huge risks. Thanks for the reply

My HDD's temperature used to be at 35 degrees. But today, it suddenly rose up to 40-42 degrees. Is it normal?

Guys, what does the "Tz00" TZ01, TZ02 mean? And btw, for those of you who undervolted, were you guys able to get your 9.0x multiplier to be 1.0375V's? I feel that this is ultra low, but I havent had a problem yet.

I got my 9.0x to 0.9750V at 2.4ghz, I just wish that there were lower voltage options than 0.8750V because I can even use that on my 7.0x multiplier, god only knows how low it could go on my SuperLFM option at 6.0x. I also wish there were more multipliers too so I could either clock even lower or have the possibility of overclocking

I think the TZ00 things are like the north and south bridge and possibly the wifi

I stand corrected, I was able to change my voltage 3 clicks below that, to below .8 volts. Is this normal? I haevnt had the chance to run a 2-hour stability test, but I have ran a 35 minute stress test.

What is your max temps for your two cores?

You think that's hot? My other laptop idles at 65C for CPU and 72C for GPU. Although, no undervolting or cooling pad. I was absolutely shocked when I saw my laptop here go down to 36C, I used to see it at 50C minimum w/ undervolting. My cooling pad seems to do wonders...

    With undervolt core 0: 68 degrees C
    core 1: 70 degrees C

    without undervolt core 0: 79 degrees C
    core 1: 80 degrees C

How do you use the registry tweak btw?

Interesting. My max temps are: Core 0: 56, Core 1: 57. So i guess it did help somewhat.

Either way I managed to knock off 10 degrees from my load temperature which is an ok drop, it's not amazing but neither is it trivial

I knocked off about 13 C degrees under stress which I'm more than happy with. Now when gaming the CPU stays in the low 50's which is well below the throttling threshold.

My Studio XPS is around 35C° during Browsing websites and stuff.

It gets up to 56C° hot when playing COD4 and being undervolted.

    cheers

My cpu cores idle at around 35C and my HDD at 33-34C but that's with undervolting and the nc2000. After over an hour of crysis warhead, cpu cores reach about 47-48C and HDD hasn't gone above 40C.

Undervolting + nc2000 really help lower those temps for long gaming sessions.

WOW are all you guys with temps in the 50's using a notebook cooler?

I have undervolted my P9500 to 1.05v and raise the back (no cooler) and my CPU still hits 70c in COD5 & DOW2 :(

When it was on a flat surface with no undervolt it hit over 90c and throttled

50 under load is very impressive, 70 degrees is still very respectable but 50 is just down right amazing

    Hello,

I am not using a notebook cooler. You do also have a P processor, I wonder why your temperatures are getting that high. Perhaps it has something to do with the Windows version you are using?

I am of course using my notebook on a flat surface, using it on a bed for example could rise the temperatures.

    cheers

I use either a Zalman NC2000 or an Antec Cooler To Go and with undervolting, T9550 @ 1.0v, gaming CPU temp.'s are mid 50's with either cooler. I've never tried gaming without a cooler and doubt I'd ever want to. But I think coolers have more impact on the comfort of the user than on internal temp.'s.

Thanks guys. I think i will pick up a cooler after all, mine does get a touch uncomfortable after prolongeded gaming.

I have a P8600 I might switch in at some point to see if it runs cooler than my p9500

The cheapest solution is to reapply thermal paste to the cpu. It helped me shave an extra 7-8C off of my idle temperature and load temperature.

Those are good temperatures, it's roughly what I get under normal use. However, for the first time getting this laptop I decided to play a game (Need for Speed Carbon). Ive got the P8600 CPU and integrated NVidia 9400M. After about an hour, my CPU and GPU temp is hovering close to 80C. Anyone else getting similar temperatures gaming?

jonjonk - I have already applied AS5 and undervolted plus I raise the back of the notebook.

nobb - Before I applied AS5 and undervolted my CPU was hitting 93c then throttling whilst gaming. Reapplying AS5 got me down to mid 80's gaming and finally undervolting took another 10c off my temps.
I am guessing you have an sxps 13 if you have a 9400m which also runs at high temps like our 16's, I would definately apply new TIM and undervolt.

Does applying our own thermal paste void the Dell warranty?

I cannot imagine that Dell would allow joe blow enduser to disassemble their CPU and heat sinks dropping thermal paste and or tools here and there and then warranty the machine when you short out the motherboard. But I guess they would have to prove it.

    But I could be wrong.

I was just playing Crysis Warhead on the highest settings, at 720p, no AA, at around 15-25fps (yeah not great but still playable and even more so commendable for a $1250 laptop, thats not even meant specifically for gaming), and my temps never got above 72c. The cores stayed at around 60c+/-. At first I thought my computer ran hot... but now I am thinking it is running quite cool. I see people saying they are hitting 80-90c when playing games. I wonder what my temps would be with undervolting and with a zalman nc2000 (instead of the antec). Probably get another couple FPS out of it all. :)
