For XPS 1530 monitored by HW monitor at idle w/ a09 bios (t8300, 86gt, 6cell, led 1440, 250gb 54 rpm, 2gb ram, vista home prem). I'm worried because I only have the 1 year basic warranty

Those temperatures are pretty good.

Yeah, very good temps.

here are my temps, the highest were while gaming, my hands are burning !!!!Attached Files:

Max when gaming a bit... -
hehe IM HOT!!!!
-
lol...
Btw, I figured out that even a little bit of nice ventilation makes a couple of C diff to the temp. I mean of course everyone would make sure about this, but like lets say, I am still yet to get a cooler, and for now, some times I see that directing the table fan, arnd 6-7 feet away, more towards the laptop makes the temp' better.. And I am saying about this b/c, its like freaking hot these days here and humid.. so I use the fan and I noticed this diff.. don't know if its sig but I am happyOf course, I am waiting for the damn cooler still..

i have a 9 cell battery so it gets nice cooling, tho it does get very hot left of the touchpad... my HD is a bit too fast im afraid...
-
Have you tried a notebook cooler?
-
your temps are fine.
-
in case you dont know your harddrive id right next to pad on left so u do get some heat from that.

I have a question re my gpu temps. I did some virus scanning from mcafee and symatec sites (they have free scans to determine if you have any virus/spywear problems) today. I idle at about 60 degrees but the scanning activity (hardly heavy duty gaming) caused my temps to go up to 70-75 degrees. I know that those temps are still not high but I am wondering if simple scanning like that should raise the temps that much? TIA!
-
what program do you use for monitoring your notebook temps?

HWMonitor or Everest
-
Yeah, though the CPU does run cooler than the CPU typically.
I highly recommend HWMonitor simply because you dont have to actually install anything and is just a standalone file. -
I am using HWMonitor and thanks for everyone's replies and reassurance; it was just scary to see it go up so much over something that I did not figure would use that many resources to push the temp up that much. I guess it does use that many resources, lol!

I wonder how much a copper mod and the A09 BIOS would affect idle/gaming temperatures? I think someone should try it and let the forums know their findings. I'm looking forward to M1530 it shipped today! Arriving on the 11th of August hopefully.

copper mod is useless for m1530.... the GPU is directly in contact with the cooling copper by springs pushing it... unlikke the m1330 using a thermal pad contact..
-
Is there any kind of mod for the m1530 that would help?

Can you please elaborate or link us to some place with some explanation? Thanks a lot.

Here's the link to the copper mod if you feel like reading up on it:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=268081
Read up on it if you'd like.
The M1330 has a design flaw where the cooling system is not really efficient since everything is bunched up together due to its smaller form factor. The way the thermal pad is placed causes the thermal goo to melt and go all over the place, which in turn causes overheating problems, or the laptop to just get really really hot.
The M1530 on the other hand, like paper_wastage says, is directly in contact with the cooling copper and does not have the same design flaw as the M1330, also mainly due to the fact that the M1530 has more room too because its 15.4'' instead of 13.3''.
You shouldn't have to worry about having to mod the M1530 simply because the M1330 is the one that gets a lot hotter by design. With the copper mod, temperatures are a lot lower, but the M1530 really doesn't need it at all and gets great temperatures. Consider the Copper Mod a fix for the M1330 and the M1530 to not have the same problems. -
Ahhh supreme angel.. thanks for that link..
But I was asking for the other part.. the part about being in direct contact.. I wanted to like have some kinda technical knowledge on this and some pictures probablyJust for the sake of learning... Anyways..
-
I already explained to you about the problem and what is important. You don't even have an M1330 so you have nothing to worry about. I don't have the time to explain all the intricacies, but if anyone else has time and would like to take pics and write a guide on this... sinstoic? That is unlikely though.

Thanks, Forte for the info about the copper mods. I guess I won't need it, and since it's going to be my first new XPS, I don't wanna mess with anything...yet.
-
Yeah, but you will want to go through and check through everything to make sure everythings ok. You don't want to install the copper mod and later find out you had problems before, but the copper mod actually "hid" the problem since you added a support beam for it ya know?
-
Yeah I know and I understood that part.. many thanks for that..
I was just wanting to know if there is anything more..
Sorry anyways, for any trouble.
Thanks again. -
No problem, don't take what I said to any offense or anything cause I didn't mean anything of that kind. Its always good to ask questions.

Are these idle temperatures normal?
