I can't stand it if my m1530 has ANY dust or anything on the keyboard/screen/active touch controls... I am constantly wiping my system down.
Am I really as pathetic as I feel?![]()

Same here, all my electronics I hate getting dusty, etc.
-
haha im paranoid about scratches on everything that costs large amounts of money. When ever my iphone gets a scratch on the screen protector i have to change it out lol. i will be the same as you when i get my xps.
-
I used to be like you when I first got mine back in Christmas Eve '07. But, recently I'm not as anal as before and have let other people use it. My laptop is still very clean without any smudges, cracks, dents, etc., just some occasional dust now and again.

I hate getting my m1330 dirty too. I can't stand seeing fingerprints on my lid. I even take a mini-vacuum to get the dust out of the logo. I'm sure I'll stop being so OCD about it once my laptop gets a bit old, though.
-
Yeah, I hate dust of any kind around my desk. I usually dust once a week.

At least I'm not the only one. haha
-
yes im a freak. I watch anime and like picking up loli's from the mall.
Just kidding. I hate when my old one get's dirty. -
Haha, it's normal to be like that with pricey electronics (as well as other things). You'll notice in about a year that you're not caring as much about the little smudges/dust.
If you do, then you have OCD. -
-
I'll blow out the fans/exhaust once a week. As for fingerprints, I gave up cleaning it daily. It's impossible to keep fingerprints off the beast...

How mcuh are you guys using your laptops though? My main system is my XPS400 desktop, so I use my laptop maybe 4 times a week. -
how do you guys clean your screen??? do you use water ? help me out plz
-
Hi!
and HA!...I try to keep my 1530 clean....I dont eat food around it.....but, I do not stop myself from drinking whatever I am drinking at that moment...I just take great care...
I like to keep it dust free, the screen clean, and generally keep it as nice looking as it is
Mainly, because this is my first laptop....and I plan on having it for at least a few years

If you didnt receive one...purchase one..they work great

Screen - go ahead and laugh (but I dont believe in buying those LCD cleaning products)... I just use some tissue, run it under the faucet and wring it out. wipe down the LCD and then dry with the microfiber cloth. Works fine.
-
When it comes to my electronics, I am totally anal about keeping them in pristine condition. My m1210 looks the same as the day I got it, only the bottom feet have some minor scuffing. Can hardly believe it's 2 years old.
-
i am a dues paying member of the clean freak club.
-
I always keep my laptop inside of the bag it came with whenever I'm not using it so it doesnt attract dust. I am very very picky about perfection with my elite XPS notebook.
-
-
i did a search on cleaning lcd screens may diff ideas. best idea i got was to treat it like a new born babys skin (without powder and lotion LOL) seems a good idea. i use a damp microfiber cloth to clean and XPS micofiber cleaning cloth to dry.
-
It's like getting a new car and hopefully it doesn't get dinged or scratched. I used to be obsessive about cleaning the screen but now I only do it before I turn it on. I glare the screen to see any marks and with a damp microfiber cloth I wipe the screen gently and follow it up with a microfiber cloth specifically made for glass to dry. Yes there is a microfiber cloth made specially for glass, the weave is different, it's usually located in the automotive section of a retail store (Wal-Mart) for car detailing.
-
M1530 also comes with its own microfiber cloth, but I want it to be in perfect condition as well so I never use it. XD
-
I guess I must accept I am a super-freak (like Nic Cage says in 'The Rock')... ;-) at least till now, I prefer not a single speck of dust lands on my notebook.. but unfortunately thats not possible and there is always dust around.. Anyways, I'd got myself a feather duster and I clean the screen / lid with a damp super-soft cloth just to remove any sticky marks (which are not there usually because I make sure I don't touch the screen and at the moment I don't carry it around, so no fingerprints on the outer part of the lid.)
-
Keeping it in the case it comes with when your not using helps prevent most dust from collecting onto it.
-
Well, that true @ Forte. But now I have it on my table at home and I feel kinda lazy to keep it in the case and taking it out every day... :-( I tried this... was feeling way too lazy to do this ;-P But anyway, now I have a special cloth on the table on which the laptop sits and then once I finish work for the day I cover it up from the other end of the cloth
And this helps a lot.. though I do keep it in the case when I am away from it for a few days.
-
I definitely have OCD when it comes to keeping my electronic gear in pristine condition.
I dust my 1530 pretty much every couple of days. Luckily, the midnight blue colour doesn't seem to attract fingerprints at all - maybe that's because I am careful not to touch the lid at all if I can avoid it!
I also use a bluetooth keyboard/mouse 99% of the time, so the keyboard/palm rest of the laptop should not wear or discolour at all! -
Yep, so there... guess the system should be pretty clean with all these things!!

I'll PM you and tell you how it goes. -
But no worries, I just use the softest tissue available in the super market and make it a little damp with a couple of drops of pure water and wipe the screen very gently, without applying any pressure, in slow circles with the damp part on the tip of my finger
It works really well.

I tried here and they said they don't give it out anymore :-(

The surface of the M1210 attracts my greasy fingers as I do tend to snack and surf. I use a Wet-Wipe first followed by a dry lint-free cloth for the top of the laptop.
-
i use the xps cloth that it came with but when i clean it the dust still stays on and its hard to get it off with the cloth any ideas?
-
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
get those compressed air cans... i see them at my local costco at $12 for 6 pack, much cheaper than at staples or anywhere else for that matter....
or a (real) microfiber cloth, the xps cloth is microfiber but probably not as good -
Yep, I'm a bit OCD. However, with my dark grey leather skin, I don't have to worry about fingerprints on the Tuxedo black finish.
I frequently clean the palm rest, and the media bar buttons which get dusty really easy.
The glossy screen is the hardest to keep clean. Little specs of dust annoy me and I end up blowing them away or lightly swatting them away with a finger or cloth. Once in a while I put eyeglass cleaner solution on the cloth and give the screen a good scrubbing. -
I am like this with my electronics as well, but once there is a scratch or ding, it's all downhill from there. I was like that when I first got my car as well, but there are so many careless people out there that will put a ding in your car even if you park far away. Now my car has multiple tiny dents due to people opening their door too wide and dinging it and don't care too much anymore. As long as it works. Hopefully my M1330 will last indefinitely as I have kept practically all my computers in use. Except for my PII 400Mhz desktop, but still works. If the M1330 will last for as long as that PII desktop, then I will be happy.
-
I just performed a regular cleanup of my Sager. I plan a full cleanup and dust removal of the XPS next week. I don`t ever touch my notebook, unless I have to. Even when opening it, I use a microfiber
-
i am prob worse than anyone you will ever meet. seriously. ill replace a part even if it costs me 100$ if it has a nick on it.. yeah i know im sick.. lol
-
My cousin left some VERY tiny crumps of something in the indented dots near the speakers, above the media control buttons. I tried picking them out with a toothpick, but it only seems to make it all worse.
Any idea how I might get the tiny crumbs out? Vacuuming doesn't do anything either.
It sucks cuz now everytime I open the laptop lid, I would see the white-ish crumps caved into the tiny black indents. Annoys the heck out of me -
If you mean the little holes above the media buttons, you can pop that off and just blow through it or wash it in water. If you do the latter dry it off REAL well and let it sit on the oven the next time you cook before you put it back
I myself, keep my M1530 completely clean. I never use the touchpad so its disabled and my wrists are ALWAYS resting on the microfiber towel that Dell gave me. I do however plan going into dell chat and complaining about stupid things and getting next exterior parts. When I complained about my Touchpad sticking, I got a whole new palm rest! -
Come on, leave the poor Dell Chat Guys alone and let them focus on shipping out proper graphic cards and fixes!!! ;-) ;-) lol.... -
Never, I spent alot of money for their services and I plan on milking it for as long as possible.
In two years when it runs out, I'll have all new exterior parts and a new motherboard (already got a new one once) -
