Hey guys so ive been getting a vibe that my M1330 may bite the dust soon or relatively soon although its been pretty great and ive been praying that it doesnt have the issue.

Anyhow, I installed HWMonitor and basically I get temps averaging in the low-mid 70s and sometimes in the 80s. The highest it has ever gone since installing it two weeks ago was 84 C.

So at what temps exactly should I start to get worries are 70s bad?

Then my external hard drive has decided to give me corrupt errors so I cant even backup my files now :(

Im just frustrated and I love my M1330 a lot it has been the longest laptop I have owned.

Anyhow, thanks in advance for your replies.

Is that under normal use or while gaming? I found temps could hit 90+ while gaming. Atm my temp is 69C with a monitor connected plus i have google chrome open with several tabs and streaming video so it does sound quite high if that's when idle. Have you checked the fan for dust bunnies?

That sounds pretty normal for the m1330 to me. Mine is normally higher than that and when under load it would regularly top out at 102 (celsius of course) . Although it only lasted about 3 weeks after that started until one day it just wouldn't turn on and they sent me my 5th motherboard replacement. Apparently next time it dies I'll be getting a full system replacement though.

It does. Do temps progressively get higher as the gpu is starting to fail or will it vary depending on system specs etc?

Was that without cooling? I spoke to support yesterday and asked them about the gpu issues and they told me they had new motherboards and the gpu issues had been sorted; how long ago did you get the new motherboard and why can't they put a new one in if it's been fixed?

Also i asked them if i could take out the heatsync and apply some new thermal paste without it affecting the warranty and they said yes, anything like that is fine as long as i don't add any third party parts which i guess means copper modding is out!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I don't have a cooling pad or anything. They've told me the gpu issue has been sorted out during the past 2 motherboard replacements. I had the motherboard replaced at the beginning of August, end of September, beginning of December, middle of December, and most recently on March 18.

Apparently they would have given me a replacement unit last time but they couldn't because it apparently wasn't GPU related but was power related since I never got any vertical bars. But ever since the most recent motherboard replacement I haven't had any huge heat spikes. Considering that I've had a motherboard replacement every 2-3 months over the past year I expect it to die again some time near the end of may or the beginning of june. I'm hoping it will last longer though because I don't really like any of the laptops that Dell has right now

By the way I bought it on about march '08, so for about the first year the computer was fantastic, then I got the vertical bars and its never been the same ever since :(

I was told the same exact thing yesterday for my M1530. But I highly doubt they took old, obsolete hardware for a system that is no longer sold and upgraded it. It makes absolutely no sense. That's what I told them in my response.

Replacement motherboards yes nothing new about them and nothing has been fixed!
Since they have claim things have been fixed ask for this in writing and don't settle for anything less.
If and when you do get a replacement do the mod and also ask for a new cooling unit with the exchange....

To me, they said a new mobo, heatsink and fans. I said I would only accept if they gave me a 100% guarantee in writing. (Thanks to Cin' for the advice)

Don´t play games, keep your air entry fins clean, undervolt it and do the copper mod. That´s all, your GPU temp will be around 50 d. while doing normal tasks, and perhaps around 60 deg watching movies.

Worst thing, CPU top temp could not be down at all, and if you put load on it your GPU, will "escort" it even if it´s not working at all. So...if you are going to recode videos or make 3D calculations, use a cooler like Zalman 1000. And pray ;)

I have broken 2 GPU ;) and i´m working with my 3rd mobo. And praying... is always useful ;)

Thanks for all the replies guys and I have to say that it is in this section that I kind the most responsive and helpful people.

Right now I have 6 tags open in FF, 3 tabs in chrome, a word document open, MSN signed in and my temperature is 62 C. I also have a cooling pad under the laptop or else im sure it would be above 70 C. Since turning it on from 8:30 am it has hit a high of 66 C.

What I find happening is that in the nights it gets hotter usually I guess the full day being used takes a toll in the nights. However, it still has not gone over 84 C.

    What do you guys think?

Right now im a bit torn this computer has been very good to me, meaning I love its style, size and the only issue I have ever had was the battery which I still have not replaced.

Now im wondering if I should buy a Vaio or a Lenovo T410, problem is that although I can buy one I still would rather not spend any money. Anyway, im going to buy I believe the Lenovo.

How long do you guys think my M1330 will last for at the current temps?

As usual thanks for the replies and feel free to suggest which laptop I should buy next. Thank you.
