No SXPS come with the 4760, so very few people would know.

You can not overclock the 4670 in the Studio XPS1640. Dell Locked the Bios.

    1.
i have OC my SXPS 16 several times (Ati 3670)... with good result (a tip is to use a fan pointed below on the chassi)

    2.
DELL is nearly always lock their VBIOS on their laptop cards. BUT i have OC many DELL laptop with locked VBIOS. (here is one guy who might can help you unlock the VBIOS).....he is really mad on unlocking difficult VBIOS's :) he he

Hey KSMB, I tried OC'ing but couldn't get it to change the clock values.. what are your core and memory clocks set at? I tried installing 8.10 CCC also and no luck =( do I need the 8.10 video driver too or just the CCC? More info on what you need to do would be great as I seen you post about this before.. thanks. Do I need to change anything in bios before doing so?

This is concerning the 4670, not the 3670. Sorry.

KSMB: u forgot to mention u didn't run 3dmark06 in standard 1280*1024 res but in lower res so u can't really compare ur score to any standard 3dmark06 result..

Very easy to overclock after you discover how. You just have to use RivaTuner and edit the file RivaTuner.cfg. In the [GPU_1002] section, look for RV730. Add your 4670 ID there, with a h suffix. For example, if your ID is 1002-9488, you have to add 9488h (you can see your device ID with GPU-Z for example).

All thanks to _hiVe, from MSI forums. See this thread for further info: http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=ae62620811135b3675aa3656a0175eea&topic=130309.0

Uhm do you actually have a Studio XPS 1640?
Because you can not overclock the 4670 in the Dell Studio XPS.

I also see that it says your videocard got 512MB, and since all 4670´s in the Dell got 1GB I doubt you had a StudioXPS.

    Cheers

    T9500 @ 2.6GHz (default clock, I can't overclock it) + HD4670 512 DDR3 @ 800e/930m @ 1280x800 gives exactly 8000 points with quite a handful of programs running in background :) I'm looking forward to your best score. Since I have competition now, maybe I'll push mine a bit further :D

Hehe, well I got a P8600 at 2.4 GHZ, cant overclock it either.. :p Yet!
    And a 4670 1GB Gddr3 @ 777/888 @ 1280x800 gives me 7738 Points. Temperature of the card was 70C°!

Do you think I can also reach 8000 Points :p ?

    what was ur default score?
i don't think i'd try this cause my card is hot enough by default too (about 50 C by idling, 70 C while stressing with 9 cell battery, without 9-cell and lifting it reached like 80-85 C..)

    Latest Run: 777@920 :p !
    7851 Points!, 8000 Seems so close>_<;

In Game Results: COD4 Standart Clock: 32FPS
    777/920 Clock: 37FPS

That is a 5FPS or 15.62% speed gain.

With a crazy 800/940 I get 42FPS in COD4 at the same spot where I got 32FPS before.

That is a 31.25% speed increase!!! unbelievable!! (I do get a few artifacts though.)

So it seems 788/909 is the highest I can go without getting artifacts in game.

Mkelliny have you actually tried 3Dmark06? It might work anyways, even if ATI tool tells you that some artifacts got detected.

I dont have furmark. But after the 9Minutes run in 3dMark06 I got 59C° for the CPU. You can see it in the picture, on the right side.

I will play some COD6 now and check the Temperatur of the GPU with GPU-Z afterwards.

I dont get Artifacts with this combination.
With 777/ 909 I got a few artifacts, but with the memory set to 950 I dont. Thats weird!

*edit*So after 15 Minutes of COD6 the highest Temperatur was 68C° for the GPU.

Since someon asked me to post my Rivatuner.cfg , here it is!! just rename it txt to cfg and overwrite your old one!

    Cheers

What's your method of oc'ing the ati card? I keep getting pixelilated pixels at 780 core and 837 shader. I'm testing it with 3dmark 06. By the way i'm running 3dmark at 1280 x 1024, so that might be a little different.

First I test with ATI Tool, stress test. Once I get Errors, I stop the test and reassign the clocks. -> sometimes even higher clocks can prevent Errors. Which is weird. But you should just try what ever clocks work the best for you. Each card is different.

Also, just a few errors in ATI tool doesnt necessarily mean that games wont work.

I hope that helped you a little, have fun with overclocking your card!

    Cheers

*edit* I see you got your core at 780. Well anything higher than 777 will result in artifacts for me.
I made the experience that the memory can usually be higher clocked than the core.

Do you have powerplay disabled in the CCC when you're overclocking? I thought I was doing everything correctly, but no matter what clock values I set in RivaTuner, GPU-Z shows that the clocks never move above 500. I end up with a 3Dmark score in the low 5000s. Is there a step I'm missing?

So I re-enabled powerplay and now when I set a clock in riva, it is reflected in gpu-z. If I put the core clock above 750, however, my system completely locks up. I'm still investigating :)

Ok weird issue. Using ATI Tools and scanning for artifacts no issues, but whenever I raise the shader above 830+ the test starts to show yellow pixels, but I get no artifact errors. Can anyone explain what this is?

Also, this is weird. The brighter my screen is, the lower FPS I get. And yeah I got a little carried away with overclocking haha. But I was looking at the temps and they never got above 62, so I figured what the hell.

Well, I've tried to OC my HD4670, but my max is 780/830 :(

And when I use this settings, I have to get PowerPlay activated, but it's allways with the high clocks and it doesn't reduce in 2D enviroment.

There's anybody who tried to extract the VBios? I can't with GPU-Z, and ATIFlash does not run (i'm using W7 x64 Ultimate), then we could modify PowerPlay settings to get correct clocks when it's needed.

So after some messing around with Rivatuner and 3dMark I came to the conclusion that 777/975 Is the highest I can go without getting artifacts.
Considering that 675/800 Is the standart clock you could say I get a 15.1% increase in my core and 21.87% increase in my memory.

From the FPS experience i had in COD4, Oblivion, Fallout3.
I get in COD4 at the same spot 26FPS with the Standart clock, and 32FPS with overclock.

This means an average increase of 6FPS or 23.07% in games.

Temperatures do stay below 70C° at all times.
My conclusion is that this card can be overclocked pretty well.

    Cheers

Wow you got a lucky card there I think!
My sxps 16 with AS5 on CPU/GPU, Undervolted P8600 CPU and zalman nc2000 runs at 76c on load with stock clocks! (I have the four vent which may account for the difference)

Has anyone managed to get 2D clocks activated with rivatuner? Or do we have to use profiles to get it to clock down whilst idle?

    cheers

76c on stock clocks? That's not normal. My gpu overclocked and no undervolt on my cpu is only at 35-40c and gpu is 50-55c.
