I posted this also in owners thread... so dont think that Im spamming!

Attention all computer gurus and sxps 1340 experts!

I have had a huge and very annoying problem with my sxps1340 for about 4 or 5 months now!

This is the problem: When running on ac adapter and watching movies, videos, streaming videos, listening to music and streaming music... everything works fine like its suppose to!!!! But when Im using it on battery then I get frame tearing.. (its hard to explaing... when watching a video the video will make a sound from the speakers like its broken record getting stuck for a second or two.... same with audio, and streaming audio and streaming video!)

Initially i thought it was the nividia drivers! so I tried all drivers there are for 9400mg!! all nvidia drivers and all dell drivers... then I thought it might be the audio drivers since it does this when listening to mp3s also.... tried all drivers as well... nothing helps!!!

The laptop works fine when on ac power... but if i go on battery in a few minutes it starts acting up..... and when i plug it back in it still continues until I restart the laptop!!!

Someone earlier a few months ago said it might be the case with ac adapter or battery! so I had my ac adapter replaced! and same thing!!! I even had my motherboard changed twice!!! still same thing so its not hardware related im guessing...

So is it possible that it is the battery it self??? since that is pretty much the only thing that hasnt been changed... my HDD was changed twice just to make sure as well!! and it has the laster firware.

Im running windows 7 x64 bit... and when I was downgrading back to win vista 64 bit the problem is still there.... I have tried all drivers on both OS's

I have also tried many and many codecs.... and many and many players..
it does it in every player! from windows media, media center, vlc... etc...
does it in youtube, hulu, itunes when listening to music or streaming music..

    Can anyone suggest anything???

I cannot get them to send me a new machine since I bought it in BestBuy... so its out of the question.. I still have warranty for about 4 more months.

Can dell send me a new battery? are batteris under warranty? since my battery is showing good health in Quickset how can I convince them to change the battery??

I just really gave up and use my laptop only when plugged in... that is very uncomfortable and beats the purpose of me buying a 13inch laptop!!

    what can I do??

So, the first two motherboard that you replace still has this problem? Also, does the video that you watch is ok on other laptop but not ok on yours? The battery itself only has 1 year warranty, so you can ask them to replace it. However, they will only replace it if you show them the fault of the battery like capacity degration.

it happens on all videos, dvd's... all videos!! it can be a newly bought dvd,, but as soon as i go to battery power in a few minutes that video will get stuck for a second playing the "audio stuck noise.... like grgrg" lol very hard to explain.. same in audio!!!

I am thinking it has to be either the battery or CPU... but im guessing if cpu was faulty then it would be faulty when plugged in as well... but this only happens on battery!! never ever did it happened while on ac power

also i have very low temps! so no heat issues in my baby.. keep it very clean! idle cpu and gpu low 40c

how do i get them to do that if they require for the battery to not hold the charge in order to replace it... or to show bad health status in quickset

hmm i get this problem too! but i didn't know it was due to the battery. I assumed it had to do with a fault with my motherboard and/or graphics card. They're sending me a new system so i didn't further investigate the matter. good luck

are you running single 9400mg card? or sli option? because this tend to be an issue with 9500 combo

    I hope its the battery

This definitely does not sounds like a battery issue.

Narrowing things down it seems to be one of three things.

Ram is the easiest to test if you have two sticks. Remove one stick and test. Then replace that stick and remove the other and test.

CPU would be next. Try doing a cpu swap with another laptop and testing. This will be the easiest way to narrow it down.

Then I'd try going down to windows 7 32 bit and then xp 32 bit. If you're still having the problem across all three...

Your laptop is cursed. Or you're repeatedly getting bad motherboards. I'd ask for a system replacement at this point.

So I still do not know what is wrong with my audio/video problem on battery... I opened task manager while playing a video to see if cpu usage or ram usage went up or somehow was affected by the audio/video distortion and it was fine.. the cpu levels and ram levels were same... So I dont think that cpu is the problem or the ram.. could it really be a battery somehow?? guys please I need help Im suffering with a crappy laptop and cannot demand a system replacement because I bought it in Best Buy and not from dell directly!

I also went through the same thing, its fine with me, but i don't go through mostly what you are going through, it only happened when i play HD movies, but what annoys the heck out of me the most and i know its going to happen is it freaking turns on when i am walking in the street or from class to class! I called up dell and they told me it was an issue and i was like the only person who has documented the case and i was told that " it could not be fixed" I told them oh well when the motherboard gets fried i will tell you i told you so. Indian techs aren't really that bad at times, but hey i am Indian myself. LOL Anyway, You should also try too do a clean install, but if your mobos were replaced twice and this continues, try to escalte your case with dell, actually you could buy complete care for your machine, i also bought mine from best buy and now i see a Sony Z with core i5 at best buy for only 1,699!! I also bought mine from best buy.
