I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my ~2 year old m1330 laptop and now I have the following issues with audio that I haven't found a solution for:

    1. The internal speakers don't work at all.
    2. Only the left headphone output works, not both as before the upgrade.
    3. When I have both headphones and HDMI plugged in, I have to use the Sound control panel to set one or the other to default (with the "Set Default" button) to switch which one gets the audio. I'd prefer that it be automatically switched to headphones when I plug them in, and back to HDMI when headphones are not plugged in, but I've not found any way to make this happen. In fact it would be even better if both headphone and HDMI audio were active simultaneously.

Anyone found solutions for these issues?

FYI my workaround for now is to have a shortcut to the Sound control panel on my desktop for ease of switching.

Since we don't know which audio drivers and software your using I'll give you this advice.
Win7 default drivers did work fine for me.
But I updated the audio driver from the SXPS 1645 last summer as I had audio problem with Skype and only Skype.
Go to the driver download page on Dell and select laptop/SXPS1645/Audio driver and install drivers and software. Theres other drivers you can use but I found no problem with these from day 1. I also believe the driver up there now are newer to the ones I have installed.
You might have to go into the properties for the software and may be audio drivers to select the output properties.

IDT are the driver brand now ;)

I was using the windows default microsoft audio drivers that came with Windows 7 64 bit. Then I tried downloading the Sigmatel 6.10 audio drivers from the dell site by selecting Vista 64 bit as my OS since there was no Windows 7 64 bit audio drivers available from my m1330.

Then after reading this post above, I tried the Windows 7 64 bit IDT audio drivers dated 4/2010 which I got from the dell site by pretending I had a Studio XPS 1645 instead of my actual xps m1330; that was the only way to get a Win7 64 bit audio driver from dell. (Very clever, thanks).

All of these drivers (Microsoft, Sigmatel, IDT) worked in that I could get sound out of the headphone and HDMI ports, but they did not work in that the originally reported problems all still occur: No sound out of built in speakers, and I have to manually switch between headphone or HDMI sound output; I can't get automatic or dual output to both.

I suspect there is something about the new sound model in Windows 7 that causes this, but I can't figure out from anything I've read on W7 sound how to get sound out of both headphones and hdmi.

I will note that after installing the IDT audio drivers (from the dell site for the XSPS 1645), this is the first I've gotten the internal speakers on my 1330 working with Windows 7, so this is progress.

The issue of Windows 7 not supporting multiple output streams seems to be a Windows 7 issue:

All the drivers you used should work on your M1330 as I have the same unit.
Like I've said many times before the ones for SXPS work out of the box for the M1330/1530 XPS at least you have them working now. :)
