    Ive searched, but appearantly am using the wrong terms. I want to play MP3s from my laptop on my stereo.

    First I thought HDMI, but from what I read my receiver(Onkyo HT-SR800) accepts visual only. Which Im not sure I get why you would pass video through your receiver to your TV, but /shrug.

    So I thought I read something about using your mic/headphone jacks? Do you use all 3 jacks? Are there instructions on this? What kinda of cord would you use(Im looking on monoprice.com)

    Thanks in advance.

    Also, search terms or links would be helpful.

    I have a different model Onkyo and it accepts audio through HDMI. I would try it. Seems pretty cheesy for it not to. The reason you pass video through your receiver to your TV normally is for HDMI switching so you can just hit one button and your audio and video will both switch sources. Also some receivers do video processing like upscaling etc. But anyway as far using the headphone jack. Two of the jacks are headphone jacks and one is a microphone jack. You just need to plug into one of the headphone jacks. You need an adapter cable that goes from the headphone jack to two RCA style jacks.

    Here is one.

    The HDMI passes audio.

    This is more focused towards getting 5.1 sound but you can use all of these methods to get 2.0 sound.

    1. Use analog.. 3.5mm to RCA Stereo (3 of them)

    2. Get a Express card - sound blaster - 60-80 dollars (does not have analog but has optical out) - http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=209&subcategory=669&product=16642&nav=4

    3. Get a USB Sound Card such as
    a. Creative xi-fi about 60 bucks
    * Optical out (TOSLINK)*
    * Optical Out supports stereo SPDIF out and pass through of multichannel DVD sound.

    b. creative soundblaster live 24 bit - hard to find? - about 50 bucks? out of stock http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=206&product=10702
    Audio outputs: 3 stereo analog (left/right) minijack .125-inch outputs (capable of offering decoded 5.1-channel sound from compatible sources), 2 digital-audio (1 optical, 1 coaxial), 1 multi-pin DIN output for use with Creative I-Trigue/Inspire speakers

    c.turtle beach audio advantage micro 30

    S/PDIF optical digital audio output. - stereo out put only (does not do 5.1)
