    Hi,

I got new M1330 Laptop and installed Windows XP with SP3.

Install ALL drivers and all good except for Audio.

I tried installing Sigmatel Audio drivers from dell website http://support.dell.com/support/top...c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~mode=popup&file=235761

and also tried R153908.exe But gives an error that "The system does not support the driver you are attempting to install".

I think this could be due to Windows XP SP3 service. Please advise how to fix the issue. I would definitely opt for not doing a fresh rebuild with SP2.

    Thanks
    Prvn

Prvn, I'm assuming you made sure that the drivers are for Windows XP.

Try this: *uninstall* the sound device (e.g. right click it in system devices, click the box that says "delete drivers". Then re-install the Sigmatel driver you downloaded from Dell's website. The key here is you must first uninstall the sound device before installing new drivers.

Go into Device Manager and check if you have something called "High Definition Audio Controller" under System devices.

I am having the same problem. I slipstreamed SP3 into XP and all the drivers work great except my audio.

The weird thing is in XP SP2 the audio worked fine - just in SP3 it won't work.

Anyone find the fix for this?

There are detailed explanations on how to install the audio driver on XP in the XP driver thread.
You should also note that there were 2 versions of the audio driver for M1330 before dell completely removed the driver from their website.

the first version required you to:
install the driver, but during the install the installation would just dissapear from the screen, in other words it wouldnt complete. at this point you should restart the system and the installation will automatically continue after windows boots. BUT before you continue with the installation here, you MUST remove all device drivers that have an ? mark on it in the device driver. once you have removed the devices (audio device) you should continue with the installation. if you dont remove the device you will get a message saying that the driver is not compatible with you system.

version 2 of the driver doesnt need to do the above, it does need the UAA driver though, but its installed with the driver. if you want the 2nd version of the driver id be happy to send it to you, just post me a message, but im sure you can find it if you look at a similar model to the m1330, maybe the m1530 has it?

you may also want to install the UAA driver seperatly since it is required.
    UUA driver

im running version 2 of the driver on a sp3 installation of xp and the installation was as simple as any other driver installation (you NEED the UUA driver though)

    Thanks for the reply.

I do have the Dell XPS M1330 driver dell had posted at the beginning of the year for XP. It is R171789. Let me know if I need the other version and I will give you my email addy if you don't mind sending it to me.

Here is my short story: I installed XP SP2 and all the drivers worked with no problems including the audio driver - I had to do nothing weird or special - ran the driver and it worked great.

Then I downloaded RC3 of XP SP3. Installed a fresh install of XP with SP3 - all drivers worked great but the audio driver had a problem. The ONLY thing different was I installed SP3. I did not want the hassle so I reloaded and stuck with SP2.

When SP3 was released as a final I really wanted to run it for the security updates. So I did a slipstream CD of XP SP3 - installed from scratch again and again all the drivers work great except the audio.

I never had the issue of the install hanging part way through so I am sure that is not the issue.

Because the install never had any problems in SP2 I have never had to download the Microsoft UAA driver so I will try that and see if it fixes the problem.

If you have any other ideas please let me know - I will try this fix and report back.

    Thanks

Im not sure what the problem may be then.

I am using the 2nd version (R171789.exe) Dell released at the beginning of the year and it installs beautifully on my system. After installing the driver though, I have to restart the machine manually and when I log back onto XP the driver tells me I have to update my UAA driver before I can continue with the installation, (UAA is included in R171789) but that's just one "OK" click and then the driver installs.

I am running a slipstreamed XP SP3 on my M1330 too, although its a Japanese version. Good Luck! I don't know if I can help you much more than this..

When you install the driver, do you actually get a message saying it has been successfully isntalled? If you don't, the driver installation has probably only finished half of the installation and a restart is required. (although the driver installation never tells you to actually reboot XP) After rebooting, the installation should continue automatically

I do get a message that the driver has finished installing.

I am dying over here. Just installed the UAA driver and still nothing. The only way I know it works is to install Windows XP SP2 - install the sound driver and then install SP3.

If anyone else has any advice I would appreciate it.

    thanks
